When they say this they never mean write it for more general non gaming sci fi fans or classic heroes journey fans or space opera fans or straight up nerds who would care and invest in how the spaceships work or what a mass effect field is.
They always just mean distracted people on their phones, who do not care how the guns work or what Citadel politics are and can't take anything seriously because of the jellyfish. Where's the drama and messy relationships that could be transposed from any Earth based Riverdale type show and do I have to actually watch the screen.

@NINtendo_maya I think this is more of a problem with console gaming, especially with Nintendo’s hardware gimmicks making backwards compatibility a non-starter. You can’t make the assumption that the player has already played the previous entries or expect them to just go back and play them.

This isn't just a nintendo thing, there's a huge phenomenon of game devs refusing to make sequels that actually follow up on their predecessor's story (even for narrative heavy franchises) because every installment needs to be a potential "entry point"

nintendo is so fundamentally opposed to having any kind of connecting stories between anything, its so weird. even games that are direct sequels will rarely if ever acknowledge the previous story

I have said many times that the concept "indigenous" is meaningless and worthless when analyzing the Arab-Israeli conflict (now that non-Arab Iran is a party, what do you call it - the term "Islamic-Israeli" is also wrong, since it excludes Arab Christians such as Edward Said).

Between games and animation there are lots of people who interpret “story and writing should be a secondary, or even minor, priority to focus on (gameplay/animation)” as “story and characters aren’t a concern at all” Great writing may not be needed, but BAD writing is detrimental
