@RaraSensei Wait, is that meant to be per load? Per month? Per year? I actually usually have had hot water in my places in Japan, and, even doing several washes a week, gas was never that much. Like, how much hot water does he think a single wash uses? 😆
English

This is the first thing that came up on this guy’s tool for Japan and I had to laugh. Hot water for laundry? In (a typical house in) Japan??

The War Tax@joshuapillai3
@ericnuttall Totally agree, every nation is gonna be hit, wanna figure out how this shit show affects you, made a small nifty tool to do so straitsignal.com

@zaichishka She is unfortunately allergic to the main anti-cat antibiotic, so she’s on a massive dose of the stuff that’s less effective…. But yeah. Terrifying.
English

@Absurdum14 Hope she has a swift recovery ❤️ the prospect of losing antibiotics from our pharmacological armoury is a scary one!

@thecatpatrol @Msamalam They have universities in Japan and America, so if you wanted to study, and get in that way like “Christian universities”, there’s always that 😆
I quite like them, have friends, been to prayer meetings, but have my own faith, so immune to pressure that way 😆
English

@thecatpatrol @Msamalam Internet search. Or find a member and have them take you to a meeting.
The one real cult-like feature is they have the idea that if your family try to stop you joining then they are “enemies”, so cut ties, but much much less than Tom’s fellas. 😆
English

@thecatpatrol @Msamalam They divide areas up into tight knit groups, and push members to do stuff for the group, but don’t really push for money the way the Unification church does, or proselytise the way much dodgier Japanese cults do. Also do loads of charity etc. Imagine mormons, but less “mission”
English

@thecatpatrol @Msamalam A Buddhist new religion type sect (some say cult, but their theology isn’t particular odd, and they’re organised, but not messianic, so…). They control members voting behaviour, so they’re politically powerful. Fastest growing religion in NZ apparently. Big Polynesian outreach.
English

@Msamalam I mean, at least the missing cheese girl might just have an old woman living in her ceiling like usual.
English

@PaprikaGirl_JP @GentThePenguin Kids books are the way. If you’re in Japan, or possibly from Amazon, the 1st year elementary KUMON textbooks are an excellent way to go. But you’ll need to self-start a bit, because there’s no English in them 😆
Also the “Japanese” app is a very good dictionary, with flashcards

English

First focus on memorizing the kana. Duolingo can help with that. Next, get yourself preschool kid books, and teach each one ALOUD (one page three times). Keep getting more books. Write down words you don’t know (all at first).
Know not everything can be translated, and that’s okay! Just keep ploughing through. The rest will come naturally as you “level up.”
English

@keiteay @leahfrombklyn Yes, this exactly. “Unfortunately this is not the case in Japan” is strongly implied 😆
English

@leahfrombklyn Am I bugging, or this this being presented as a *positive* for the American legal system?

English

@leahfrombklyn @Fly_Sistah Pain killers are the other big one - most common prescribed opiates in the states are illegal / not used at all in pretty much every other country. Which is low key why the opioid epidemic is confined to the US.
English

@Fly_Sistah Thank you! Wow I know about CBD and other drugs but the over the counter/prescription medications never crossed my mind. Good to know!
English

@leahfrombklyn I low-key love that the whole lede of the article is “The American justice system is corrupt and easy to game, but unfortunately this isn’t true in Japan.” 😆
English

The U.S. government has a convenient website with all that is legal and not legal to bring into foreign countries. Obey the law criminal

Excuse me??? I had no idea that Adderall is illegal in Japan (yes even if prescribed from another country) and that if you have it, they will promptly arrest you.
English

@dexarok @0xTommyGenesis @jaketropolis I saw or cited an et al in one of my papers, so there might actually be something to it, which would be kind of fascinating. But I suspect it would depend on the discipline, it seems more common in science papers and I’m not a scientist 😆
English

@dexarok @0xTommyGenesis @jaketropolis An aside, but I would genuinely like to know if AI uses et al 500,000 times more often than non-ai. Like, papers (and thesises, and published articles) I’ve seen definitely written by AI, with hallucinated references definitely have used et al, and I can’t remember the last time
English

@dexarok @0xTommyGenesis @jaketropolis No, he means that genuinely believing something is a positive defence against libel / slander. If he genuinely believes it, even if he’s an idiot to do so, it’s not libel / slander.
English

@0xTommyGenesis @jaketropolis That's what courts are for. You can bring expert witnesses.
