@AlexHydenStudio UEFN, or Unreal Editor for Fortnite, is a PC tool by Epic Games that lets creators design, develop, and publish custom games and experiences directly into Fortnite using Unreal Engine. Released in 2023, it's popular for user-generated content despite some bugs.

@AlexHydenStudio @FlakesPower You should work on your own maps instead of messing with other people’s work. Good luck with your page! 🇧🇷❤️

It’s exhausting watching content creators / map makers / and creatives forcing their avenues of influence into being evangelists of bugs and problems that Epic Games should know about in the first place or would know about if there were more conversations internally with us. Our following wasn’t built on this and it’s sad to see it as our best option of making change.

This was a later map we made with a full time team of 5 devs getting paid competitive salaries. The first map we made yes we paid $300 for it because we didn’t even know the potential ourselves. We also ended up retroactively paying that devs thousands as a thank you and offered him a full time job.

I made $7M in 8 months on social media with 0 followers - Got paid for 3B views - Didn't make any content myself - At age 21 I copied the exact thing a billion dollar company was doing and it was surprisingly not hard. Here's the story:

Opportunities like this happen every year, TikTok creativity, Titktok Shops, Youtube Music, even Fortnite.. - @NotLucFN and I made $250K in a month off a Fortnite map by hiring someone for $300 to build it. But that's a separate yap - Focus on one platform program, stick with it, and you can change your life.

Most Unique? Basic kill zombie hordes vampire-survivor-like gameplay. Map by one of the most successful simulator creators made a map in the same genre months before. 75 whole devices! Never before seen! Not to mention the launch bugs. Game even crashed when Nick was streaming it. Players would load into existing games and have no idea what to do in your beautiful pregame lobby. Credit where credit is due, best thing was the boss battle visuals, mate, but that even that battle was poorly designed where only the passives did any damage and broke after the second battle on launch.

I mean let's be honest emulating the Horde Rush Thumbnail on launch, right after Horde Rush was removed, didn't help with the maps success. Nor did it help with the "he always copies" sentiment, on a personal level this is when I started to have that mindset. You can't mislead players into an experience and expect them to play a game mode that is nothing like Horde Rush. I played Super Horde Survival, it was fairly enjoyable, reminded me of Slime Spire Survivors/Boss Fights. I think it would have performed better if players joining it were not quickly leaving after being disappointed it was not like Horde Rush. Players would not have had false expectations if it had been the current thumbnail. I feel the post about all the devs involved, time spent, lines of code and such also created expectations from the players that was not met sadly. The map itself was not a bad map, I think this one didn't hit the mark due to how it was marketed.

@RayBenefield I see that makes sense. So an experience release every 2 weeks then updates to reach full game status. Can’t wait to see it! It’ll be some great info for the talk mate.

@AlexMonsterous Like you pointed out, it's all going to be tech demos early on. I still have a LOT of work to do to fill in typical needs for a game. But the core is in place to allow me to do that now. They are going to start out like TomJank's daily warmups, but get upgraded over time. 😅😅😅

🔥🔥🔥 Unreal Fest Talk submitted... Now we prove it. By the time Unreal Fest Orlando happens I should have released 10+ experiences.

@AlexMonsterous By that time most will have reached full game status. A "release" for me isn't a one and done thing. Every experience will continue to get updates. My first few months will absolutely be "disappointing" to those who are nitpicking, but I'm ok with that. There's a bigger picture.

@AlexMonsterous First, anything that doesn't rely on an existing IP, even if changed, is instantly step 1 from me (which removes even some game award nominees). Step 2 is excellence in delivery and finally, step 3 is innovation and how the work has affected the betterment of the platform.

I think Epic needs a new system to promote maps and thats based on awards. Discovery can still exist and prepare a map to be seen and vetted by Epic, then awarded if its good quality. Awarded entries will appear at the front page, in another tab from discovery. This will filter all the mid, scams and copypastas out. I dont see another way and Epic has proven they cant understand quality with just algorithms for years now, so how much longer does the ecosystem has to suffer while Epic plays with peoples careers? Why doesnt Epic try curation as a test, even on the side? I ll tell you why, because it will have great results and destroy the work on discovery so far. But it aint working chief, and all I see is complaints and good money lost that could have supported an upcoming indie studio. It drives away developers from the ecosystem, and it drives away players that want depth, preventing growth. The platform is not young anymore, its stagnant. And this can also cause Epic to stop UEFN altogether if they see they cant make it happen. Discovery needs to be a part of the services used to find new maps, but NOT the main part, similar to steam. I would never go to steam and look at algorithms, only user ratings, curators, and hand picked sales. The community had enough.

@Wertandrew What your ideas on stopping people from exploiting it in the same way they exploit the previous systems like the like/recommend features or the sac button?

@AlexMonsterous No, not at all. One star maps will exist and that's fine. I am referring to maps that have clear intent to sell, advertise or exploit the player rather than allow them to be entertained. It's a bit abstract the way I phrased it, but that's what I meant.

Great feedback! I agree 100% And one thing that is implied but I want to also mention it, is that in order for the two groups to moderate bad actors, TOS rules have to adjust in a way that prevents all sorts of content that is not aimed at being fun or being genuine. Even an ad from a brand partner has to be a great game first to be allowed. This will allow the ecosystem to keep maturing and growing.

I’m glad you asked Wert! STEP 1: Replace the short sided “favorite” system with a full fledged 5 tiered written review system. This is what every one else does that offers mass moderated user generated content publishing. Streaming platforms, app stores, steam, Xbox marketplace, I could go on and on. It’s the gold standard for a reason. Basically 1-5 stars with notes from the reviewer. Reviews could be reported by the developer. STEP 2: If there is human support that exists dedicated to curating discovery content, split that support into two groups. Team (A)wack-a-moles bad actors who intentionally violate TOS. You can’t ban them all, so start with violators that maintain a CCU higher than 1,000 players. Group (B) provides moderation support/communicating with creators as to why their maps are rejected. This group would also handle the take down of false reviews as this goes hand in hand with developer communication. The automation currently in place can remain as is. STEP 3: The algorithm/rows in discovery should be adjusted to account for the following. The names are self explanatory. - Recently Played - Highest Reviewed - Most Engaging - New Releases The remainder of the rows based on categories would be curated by a balance between engagement first, reviews second. CONCLUSION: I love Epic Games and I am sure there are reasons I am unaware of as to why these steps have not been taken. But to me, overhauling the review system is a no brainer. Let the players speak for themselves in a way that’s deeper than yes or no. Does Steam review games outside of semi-automation? No, they let the users do it. Epic shouldn’t have to “creatively moderate,” they should do what they did with game development and unleash the community. @FNCreate
