New post: "Someday We Will All Be Artists" I co-direct UChicago Booth's Arts and Creative Enterprise program. The question I get most these days: how will AI impact art? Will artists be replaced? My answer: No. Art will change, but art makers will be one of the most "automation proof" jobs out there. In fact, as AI begins to automate more and more tasks, many jobs will take on characteristics that we associate with artists. We may all be artists one day. We've already seen a huge tech disruption in art: photography, which at the time threatened most working artists. But this led to the biggest explosion in creativity yet. Why? Because in art the "product" is the relationship with the artist, the narrative--the "humanness" of it is the key part of its value. As many tasks become automated, demand will likely shift to those tasks that have this property, which are impossible to automate by definition. This piece is based on interviews with working artists and practitioners: @libermontserrat and @_wetbox of the @bianjie_systems collective make an appearance, as does @mendezmendez. Thanks to conversations w/ @sebkrier and @skominers. Of course my fav new band @geese_band and midwestern emo. Here is the piece. Hope you like it. aleximas.substack.com/p/someday-we-w…
