@AusterityOtt

For more than a decade, Ottawa mayors Jim Watson and Mark Sutcliffe have starved the city of funds. The result is all around us.

@mirgray @NicolasMarier The monument to procurement is well established; individual cities have champion. #Austerity outcomes and the monuments are everywhere for all residents to enjoy. @AusterityTO leads the pack with the monumental excellence.

@AmateurOttawa @AusterityOtt Having been in Ottawa for 8 years I can say that we put up with things Montréal and Toronto residents would never tolerate. I think this city could be the envy of Canada but we just need to raise the bar. Ottawa is not a small town anymore.

“stripes” - new work by Ottawa artists Watson/Sutcliffe; explores the colour pattern of alternating bands of grey and black, symbolizing municipal attitudes towards beauty. Mixed media, concrete, asphalt, yellow spray paint.

“Stripes - interlock edition” variation on theme; Watson/Sutcliffe gift to the City; explores the interplay of asphalt as a plastic material juxtaposed against concrete and questions modularity of modern life with brick pavers. Part of a series. Mixed media.

Completely agree. These city councillors and staff are just useless slobs. They are destroying #Ottawa with their hackjob work and complete lack of pride, vision, and even the most basic concept of tidy. Second worst city crews in Canada. Worst part is that the city councillors, mayors, and other powers at be at city hall are paid top dollar to do this shoddy work. Yet, every ward looks worse than when elected. It's time for reform at city hall and recall legislation. They are not real councillors interested in improving #Ottawa or their wards, otherwise the city would not look so bad. @acgonthier

Threshold: This art installation's lighter tile marks the fleeting moment between the dark worries of life inside and the dark worries of the outside world. The assymmetrical shape reminds us these transitions are different for each of us. Artist unknown. 2024 @AusterityOtt

This is all our mayors about. Photo ops in front of the Ottawa business journal, his former business. Meanwhile, the rest of the city cares how much? that a million to billionaire is happy with his new investment? While they all suffer in legislated austerity.

As Ottawa gears up to watch our @Senators take on the @Avalanche later tonight, have a listen to my #TeamOttawa podcast with owner of the Senators, Michael Andlauer. He joined me last October at the Mayor’s breakfast to a warm welcome from the Ottawa community, and we talked about his vision for our home team. @mirgray @AusterityOtt The bold splattering of the mortar exclaims that, like ourselves, it cannot be contained by the rigid boundaries that are imposed by neighbors, or even the wider world. "We are here!" it exclaims, "And we will not be ignored!"

@VoteSheenaSharp @mirgray @Toon_Dreessen This isn’t design. It’s a grand performance art project we’re all privileged to live through. Miranda has articulated the artists message with a phenomenological statement that is anchored in the deep post-quality experience our artists hope we experience, with gratitude

@BikeOttawa In a city of plenty there would be a full width bike lane with real protection. But this is a city of #Austerity so a plastic stick and ¾ of a lane is all you get.

Who at #Ottawa thought it was a good idea to redo the Beechwood bike lane so it’s too narrow for a bike if you use the flexipost for “protection”, and you are forced into traffic instead?

@highspeedottawa @ottawacity @OC_Transpo @fordnation @_MarkSutcliffe This is a deliberate result of decades of austerity; it showcases the dichotomy of suburban and inner urban infrastructure, highlighting the approach to equity and governance and ensuring the public living thru this grand art experiment is suitably ensured of cultural experience

@OC_Transpo I took the #6 from Beechwood to Sparks & #7 back from Rideau Ctr this morning & the experience was subpar. Both directions the drivers were hard on both accelerator & braking, sending passengers all over the place - the drivers need better training. 1/…

@OccTranspo It’s not so much a setback as a continuation of the #Austerity art project initiated by previous mayors, setting a grand stage for the ultimate performance art project in which we’re all blessed to live.

Meanwhile in reality, #Ottawa is having a great conversation on the transformational setback that Mark's term in office will have on our communities and city for generations to come.
Mark Sutcliffe@_MarkSutcliffe

On the latest episode of my #TeamOttawa podcast, I’m joined by Martin Imbleau, CEO of @TgfHfr. We had a great conversation about the transformative impact high-frequency rail will have on how we move through our communities, city, and country for generations to come. Imagine travelling through the Montreal - Ottawa - Toronto corridor faster by train. @DerrickSimpson_ The rusty screws sticking out are a reminder that our city is a grand art project for which residents and visitors can contribute their literal blood sweat and tears to be part of. How else would you expect to experience the joys of underfunded healthcare?

@highspeedottawa @ottawacity No it’s true. Only the most bleak and austere public places are possible. Must keep taxes and expenditures realistic.
