EFF NKOMAZI SUBREGION STATEMENT ON THE APPARENT RELUCTANCE BY NKOMAZI LOCAL MUNICIPALITY TO INSOURCE SECURITY GUARDS.
Date: 13 April 2026
- The municipality currently spends no less than R60 million annually on outsourced security services. This is a municipality that is drowning in financial distress, a municipality that cannot meet its basic duties, a municipality where workers are not paid on time, a municipality where service providers wait beyond the legally required 30 days, and a municipality that owes Eskom approximately R160 million.
- The EFF made it clear that insourcing is the only viable and sustainable solution.
Private security companies charge the municipality more than R24000 per security guard per month, while the very same workers receive wages as low as R4000 to R6000. This is indeed exploitation at its best, sustained by a system that prioritises profit over people and drains public funds.
- Insourcing would significantly reduce costs, eliminate corrupt middlemen and also ensure that workers are brought into the municipality with proper benefits, including medical aid, pension fund and job security. It would also strengthen internal capacity and contribute to building a capable and developmental local state.

Private companies in South Africa and those trading with SA should take a stand against the country's racist laws. The government doesn't have the means or competence to enforce it. It's maintained by the private sector - the very people who are punished by it.
