@sofija316 @ReedEbbinghaus @dharma_llama @oscillate23 Ngl here you should just take a chill pill because all he did was ask a question, saying this with the utmost respect to you as Orthodox brethren. Hostility should not be our go-to.

@Einhart_Torquil @AtheistTakes Basically, when you ask saints to intercede, their living souls in heaven hear you and pray to God themselves. It’s supplementary, an additional voice asking for God to have mercy on you, by someone who spent their lives after God’s heart and knows how to pray most effectively.

@BasedPandaKing @AtheistTakes Honest question, if I am asking for the saints to intercede? Doent that suggest that Jesus saying, "It is finished." Would make that a lie? Like Jesus' intercession is not sufficient? That sounds like blasphemy to me. Or am I missing something?

@SagesOfSand @PowerOf_Legend @Einhart_Torquil Pray that God will change her from the inside out then, and pray that the Muslims find the one, true and triumvirate God in Jesus Christ. God willing, even one soul turned to God is an immeasurable win.

@Einhart_Torquil @AtheistTakes I understand. The best way to keep the difference in mind is the purpose of the prayer. When you pray to a saint, like the Mother Mary/Theotokos, you’re asking them to intercede and vouch for you to God. When you pray to God, you’re directly asking for His grace to shine upon you

It has always been hard for me to discern what is prayer and veneration. And line by line. Yes. It does not sound like prayer. But between the closeness to prayer and ritual, and the whole honoring the ancestors that Cherokee do. I admit. I am not smart enough. So until I find otherwise. I shall not take the chance. I have physically felt their claws and been pulled down into the darkness through the floor and looked up and saw my body still there lying motionless and without breath. I to this day have no idea why it happened. But they did not release me until I actually spoke the words, "You cannot have me I am a redeemed child of God." Then a force pulled me back up and placed me into my body. I was on the floor in the living room of a second story apartment. Everyone was asleep in the middle of the day. I never told them. Only my son has heard the story.

@Einhart_Torquil @AtheistTakes I understand where you’re coming from, I think. We shouldn’t be worshipping things that aren’t God, and I would agree, that is idolatry. However, there are many examples in the Old and New Testaments of us being called to venerate the good people who followed Christ’s path.

Hail Mary full of Grace the Lord is with thee... That is a prayer to the Dead. Idolatry. Full Stop. I understand that certain people find comfort in ritual. But prayers to the dead and as ritual are not what we were taught. Witches and Muslims use ritual prayer. I understand that all things shall be used and turned to the Glory of God. But, I cannot and will not give prayers to the dead. Cherokee Christianity has the same issues for me. And that is a hard thought to face knowing that even though I wish to speak with my ancestors. I cannot. Is would be a prayer to the dead. So I must be patient and wait for Gods time until I see my Grandmother again.

@Einhart_Torquil @AtheistTakes I ain’t a fan of Catholics, but if you spent your time learning about why icons are there, our first fights over their existence, and why they are worth venerating, you might a greater fullness of your faith which Sola Scriptura can’t capture.

@AtheistTakes Yeah, you need to tell her to get to a Bible believing church. Too many Catholics are ceremony focused. Not to mention the idolatry of praying to the dead. And now their captured pope. Yes. Get daughter into the Word not the church.
