@beffjezos Running out of time to play zero sum status games maybe
English

@TheAcademic_doc @TheInsiderPaper Isn’t it great! Most of the globe is chaos and terrible, it’s hard to make things nice and even harder with all these destructive forces being attached. If there was a way to IQ test it would be better, so smart people in these regions could still participate.
English

@TheInsiderPaper X is officially killing the "Global" in global conversation.
English

@ryanshrout I believe the reason a lot of artists hate this is fundamentally a status issue. The same reason fit people hate Ozempic. This is lessening the value of somthing that provided them self worth and status, humans care deeply about status and so react emotionally.
English

@DrewPavlou Per capita it’s not as bad, but we are a handful of lesbians away from having nothing.
English

New Zealand doesn’t have a single fighter jet and this is their navy (barely existent)
It’s actually a disgrace
What the hell are you guys doing

Pmax- Pronoun Boy@PedagogyMaxima
There's a reason Israelis are terrified of Aotearoans
English

@libProject @TheZeitgeistNZ Exactly, this is just a vehicle to escape the slum of India. I don’t blame them, I would use any loophole possible to get my family out of that country too. Terrible for NZ tho.
English

@TheZeitgeistNZ How many genuine students bring entire families with them What age are these people
English

WATCH: Hipkins says Labour will negotiate with National to tidy up some existing policy to fix potential problems with migration and investment in the India FTA. If it were me, I would:
- Prevent people on temporary work permits from bringing their families in.
- Prevent people moving from work permits to permanent residency (or at least make it more difficult)
- Tighten up “migrant exploitation” rules - particularly around minimum wage rates, hours worked and conditions to ensure students aren’t brought in and exploited as cheap labour.
A bit more info on the investment provisions would be helpful too. Unsure what’s going on there.
English

@TheZeitgeistNZ Why the hell are we not pausing or stopping all immigration of this type. There is a clear international trend across the west of increasing social instability due to immigration. We would be smart to stop it until we figure out where this is headed.
English

@DrewPavlou Better to keep the back yard and send people home rather than promote a new slum culture.
English

@Humbuggi152997 @Infideliter2022 “Get to keep” it’s the people and companies creating the wealth. The government just takes it and flushes down the toilet
English

@Infideliter2022 That would mean you are being taxed on around 1.8 - 2 million of profit, so you still get to keep 1.4 million or so after tax. So no you are not being taxed too much.

@Gumbootson “Loved our beautiful melting pot of people” you must have grown up in Auckland or to a lesser extent Wellington, the places in NZ that are the furthest from NZ culture. New Zealand is European and Māori. The world is big and NZ is small we don’t want a melting pot.
English

I’m a nz born kiwi. And we’ve always loved our beautiful melting pot of people in New Zealand 🇳🇿
But I’m worried about the mass immigration that took place under lsbours reign of terror. Hundreds of thousands came in. Even Erica Stanford relayed on the herald that she doesn’t even know who came in.
And I’m not comfortable with the trade deal. Even my Indian friends says it’s not good.
I’m glad we have Winston in the coalition.
National seems to be following labours agendas.
And this is NOT what we voted for.
Gilda.Kirkpatrick@Strange_G
I’m an immigrant myself. I’ve lived here for 36 years. @BrianTamakiNZ is on the right track. His concerns are as real as it gets.
