@BTCsessions @callebtc Probably a good idea to have a high degree of certainty about the rules for block validity and not "sit on a fence" If a chain split happens it can be quite hard to sit on a fence

@BitMEXResearch @NicoPerrino What are you on about. We just want the website to stop showing harmful content to kids in the UK If they are unwilling or unable to implement this we will block them. Why are you getting so uptight no one is suggesting the UK is trying to dictate what you show your kids Paris🤣

In 1783, when signing the Treaty of Paris, the UK recognised the Declaration of Independence If the UK wants to enforce it's laws on US territory, it would need to rescind the treaty and refight the revolutionary war If the UK wants to block websites, something very different, that does not violate the Treaty of Paris

@NicoPerrino We don't care what you show your children in America, you clearly don't give a shit about them but in Britain we will protect our children. If that means blocking websites that refuse to follow our laws that's what we will do. America is not the world government.

I just really would love to know that when Sarah Breeden says 'unhosted wallets will not be permitted in the UK', what is going through her head, what does she think an unhosted wallet is, or does, and how she thinks she is going to prevent people from running software that essentially just sends messages to other instances of the same software.

Idiotic statements like this are made when policy is prepared by those who do not understand technology, and lack the intellectual curiosity to try. I’m far from a defender of stablecoins (for me they retain all the disadvantages of fiat currencies, not least of which being the peg to a currency controlled by a central bank). But I recognise at least that they exist, and that people use them, and the technology has certain properties. At the same time, I try very hard not to publicly call out people for rank stupidity, even when (like the @bankofengland here) they clearly deserve it. Saying ‘self hosted wallets will not be permitted under the UK’s stablecoin regime’ is a statement of such monumental, such overweening, stupidity, that it is hard to formulate a sensible response. Perhaps there is no point in trying. Let them say this, and then let everyone in the UK simply continue to use their ‘self-hosted wallets’ (ie ‘wallets’) without paying them a second’s more attention.

Attack Blocks We examine “attack blocks”, Bitcoin blocks constructed such that they are difficult to validate This attack was first proposed Jan 2013: A 1MB transaction could take over 3 minutes to verify (BIP-54 fixes this) bitmex.com/blog/attack-bl…

maturing is realizing that FTX was one of the best investors in crypto industry: > $500M in Anthropic would now be worth roughly $30.4B > $1B in Solana would now be worth roughly $5.1B > $648M in Robinhood would be $5.7B > $100M in Sui would be $1.2B > $1.15B in Genesis Digital Assets would be $3.5B > $700M in SpaceX via K5 would be $3B did some estimates and their total portfolio would be up from $4.7B to $52.5B which is a $47.8B in rise absolutely nuts

Hudson Williams, Jennifer Grey, Terry Chen, Elizabeth Adams, Hannah Galway, and William Mapother join the cast of THE ALTRUISTS. The series tells the story of Sam Bankman-Fried (Anthony Boyle) and Caroline Ellison (Julia Garner), two hyper-smart, ambitious young idealists who tried to remake the global financial system in the blink of an eye...before they were accused of stealing $8 billion.

.@knutsvanholm on why we should change Bitcoin’s consensus rules with BIP-110: “From my point of view, even if all it accomplishes is like a hit on the nose on these spammers, I think it’s worth doing it because I don’t think people hate them enough” 🤡🤡🤡 youtu.be/hBvlmFgQENw?si…

@Arthur_van_Pelt @LukeDashjr That page seems accurate and Luke helped write about the release of client 0.8.1 when I wrote it 0.8.1 was a softfork client, but the 500KB maximum block generation size change was not a softfork

@BitMEXResearch @LukeDashjr Again, Luke was *not* wrong. In these cases, the word soft-fork is used because the new rule added in Bitcoin Core v0.8.1 (released March 18, 2013) behaved in a manner very similar to how a soft fork works in Bitcoin's consensus upgrade terminology.

@Arthur_van_Pelt @LukeDashjr The 500KB limit was not a softfork. In that respect Luke was wrong. Its not important that he was wrong, so while I called him a liar, that was a joke

@BitMEXResearch That's what happens when it is a recommendation, yes. Still doesn't go against anything that @LukeDashjr stated. Maybe it's better you stop trying to make a point that isn't one. It's embarrassing now. You called him a liar, jokingly, and that joke failed. Let's stop here.
