Visited an old friend on Loch Lomond today. Luss is one of my low-key favourite places in Scotland, especially this time of year, and its hogback gets more interesting every time I see it

Horaah - #HillfortsWednesday and today our clip shows Woden Law Hillfort in the Scottish Borders, an Iron Age fort, earthworks, field system and #Roman siege works. The theory is the fort was abandoned and Romans used it for siege practice.

Beehive Dovecotes in East Lothian, Dirleton Castle, Luffness Castle, Dolphingstone (1990) & Waughton Castle. Each have stone rings 'rat-courses' on outside to stop rats climbing up walls and into vent in roof to attack/eat doves. These didn't always stop them. #BeehiveDovecotes

Turnberry Castle reconstruction of boathouse entrance protected by a huge portcullis. Nigel Tranter suggested King Robert the Bruce may have attacked the Castle from this point. Perhaps the portcullis wasn't down or he & his men swam under it to take English garrison by surprise

The rare and intriguing Yarrow Stone in the Scottish Borders. Its inscription, displayed sideways, is early Christian and in Latin; and commemorates two princes named Nudoss and Dumnogenus, who lived and died in the 400s or 500s. More pics and info: undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/selkirk/yarrow…
