In my last post, I mentioned a filled-in arch in a low wall under the current Great Western Road Bridge in Glasgow (top right). This wall was part of the very first bridge over the River Kelvin at this point. Cont./ #glasgow #kelvinbridge #glasgowhistory #streethistorian

This unassuming little spring bubbles up from the ground at 4,000 feet (1,220 metres) on the Braeriach plateau, and is the source of the River Dee. It has never been known to run dry, even in the hottest and driest years. Where the water comes from is not certain.

The fascinating harbour at Portsoy on the north Aberdeenshire coast. It was established as a burgh in a charter signed by Mary, Queen of Scots in 1550, and the first harbour was built at around the same time. More pics and info: undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/portsoy/portso…

Cupar, Fife, Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 In the heart of the Howe of Fife & on the banks of the River Eden, Cupar is a small but historic royal burgh. Once the main county town of Fife and a centre of trade for centuries, this market town was granted royal burgh status in the 14th century and today has a population of around 9,000. Its attractive streets, ancient landmarks and friendly community make it a lovely place to explore. On the southern edge of the town sits Cupar Golf Club. Founded in 1855, it is believed to be the oldest nine hole golf club in the world. This parkland course has rolling hills and small greens that are cut into the hillside, offering golfers great views and a classic Scottish golfing experience in beautiful surroundings. A short distance from Cupar is the Scottish Deer Centre, spread across 55 acres of Fife countryside. The centre is home to twelve species of deer along with many other animals including Fife’s only wolf pack, lynx, Scottish wildcats, otters and a European brown bear. With daily feeding talks and falconry shows it makes for a fun family day out and a great chance to get close to some rare wildlife.

The mercat cross in Culross, on the north shore of the Firth of Forth in Fife. This is one of Scotland's best conserved and most beautiful villages and the nearest thing you'll find in the country to a 16th century time capsule. More pics and info: undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/culross/culros…

Views from one of my many favourite rocks - Loch na Keal on Mull. Absorbing sat quietly watching the shoreline activity with nesting Oycs, Ringed Plover, Rock Pipit, Common Sand, feeding Curlew, Redshank and flyover Whimbrel and WTE.

Kyle of Lochalsh, c1920s. I'm not 100% certain if the boat carrying the car is arriving or departing but, looking at the water in front of the bow, my guess is it's about to head over to Kyleakin, Skye [photo: Duncan Macpherson, #Skye & #Lochalsh Archive Centre]
