Thank you Senator Lavon Bracy Davis for your #VisitAPrison at Polk CI. We believe by seeing issues first hand @FL_Corrections you can better understand conditions and improve our justice system. You don’t know if you don’t go! @FAMMFoundation

“In September, a federal Judge certified a class action allowing more than 1,500 inmates to collectively challenge prison heat conditions they say increase the risk of illness and death. @FL_Corrections Secretary Ricky Dixon previously testified that roughly 75% of the state’s prison housing units are not air-conditioned.” floridapolitics.com/archives/78520…

“The Senate did not include plans for a new prison that were budgeted by House appropriators. A Senate criminal justice budget proposal includes $52 million for new correctional housing units. But that doesn’t cover the $127 million that a proposed House budget sets aside for a new 4,800-bed prison.” floridapolitics.com/archives/78015…

Stephan risked his life saving a police officer. Senate Criminal Justice Chair @JonMartinEsq , after review: “he should not have been sentenced as a PRR as he did not commit robbery or a violent act. I’m sorry the system failed in this case 20 years ago.”22+ yrs for $97 petty shoplifting. @GovRonDeSantis: Rule 17 mercy now! 💔🙏

@sunlightgoldens @josephbharding Affordability, those that are not eligible for Medicaid and don’t have Private Insurance are forced to do without health care or relying on emergency rooms for care. Those on Medicare, our elderly, do not have care for their vision, hearing and dental.

@josephbharding At @FL_Corrections 70% of staff have less than 3 yrs of experience, over half are on probationary status or in training; poor staff-to-inmate ratios, such as one 19-year-old officer with minimal training supervising over 150 inmates, versus better ratios (1:35 or 1:40). Problem?

New year, new session—Secretary Dixon needs major funding now to stabilize @FL_Corrections’ crisis: staffing shortages, low pay, increased violence and rising medical costs. What solutions should the Legislature prioritize first to protect officers and reduce risks? #FLCorrections
