My Historical Fantasy novel THE ILL-KEPT OATH, set in 1820s England, is no typical Regency. Think #magic and #manners ... #JaneAusten meets #DianaGabaldon!

Rothesay Castle, Isle of Bute (Scotland) reconstruction suggestion. A Stewart stronghold. Original built in wood to protect against Viking raids. Circular stone courtyard was raised first then round towers added at a later date for extra defense. #RothesayCastle #HistoryRebuilt

Tantalising fragment of a ceramic lid probably dating back to Victorian times - found on the Thames foreshore this weekend. But what did it say in it's entirety? And what about the curtain...? #mudlarking #mudlark #WednesdayWisdom

Thomas Clarkson spent over 60 years fighting for the abolishment of slavery across the whole British Empire👏 Tireless in his fight, he travelled constantly, persuading politicians and the public until finally in 1833 all slaves in the empire were granted freedom! 🙌#HeroADay

C7 King Merewald of Mercia, aka the lion, dreamt a hermit had a message for him. The hermit dreamt a lion ate from his hand. Where they met the king founded a church, Leominster Priory. Remembered (allegedly) in this #Romanesque #TinyLion #FolkloreThursday #AnimalsinChurches

Three traditional uses for the dense, tough wood of the magical #blackthorn tree: 1. making the teeth of gardening rakes 2. making cudgels and fighting sticks 3. building the pyre for burning a #witch #folklore #treelore

Nothing is more deceitful than the appearance of humility. It is often only carelessness of opinion, and sometimes an indirect boast.

@WWEnd @KarenBooth5 And I have no problem with that. I do however have a massive problem with historical fiction authors who can't seem to stop posting about Trump being the second coming of Jesus or spewing racial and gender hatred in the present time. Those people go right out the airlock.

@CCAune1 @KarenBooth5 This is interesting, since, as I see it, historical fiction is as political as it gets. There are so many arguments online about what the Founders really believed, whether there was an historical Jesus, or the relative merits of Greek style direct democracy.

@KarenBooth5 Indeed, and anyone who would assert that I cannot follow. This is why writers need to seriously consider what they choose to project to the world. Someone like Orson Scott Card? Buh bye.

@CCAune1 That's a sensible distinction. I believe some writers have multiple accounts, so they can get involved in politics elsewhere. It also depends on how we define politics. My WIP features climate change, which some would say is political, though I would disagree.

@KarenBooth5 To clarify, if one is a writer whose content is politics or social consciousness, that's fine. In my case, my public persona is as a writer of historical fiction and fantasy. I refuse to muddy that image with modern politics.

@KarenBooth5 I think writers do themselves a disservice by mixing politics into their writing postings. This account is my public face, a business arm of my work. Better they create a 2nd account for that stuff, as I have done. I WILL unfollow writers who post disagreeable politics.

Golden like the sun which has appeared to have arrived, these 1900 evening shoes have been made from a metallic leather, unusual for the time. The use of this was not widespread until the 1920’s. Two gold lamé ribbon bows finish the deal in creating beautiful shoes. @metmuseum
