Attended Commissioning Course Short 243 this morning to see 3 new Army Reserve Officers commission into the @Proud_Sappers. Also witnessed a bit of history as the very first PQOs were commissioned into the Royal Army Medical Services!

The long awaited launch of Volume 13 of the Corps History at the National Army Museum @Proud_Sappers

@MungoMelvin @TheUCS473 I was a very young private soldier in 5 Queens during Lionheart. To deploy 31,000 reservists in support of this exercise was a fantastic achievement. This was back in the day when the TA was 70,000 strong and the Warsaw Pact was 1,000 miles closer.

@TheUCS473 This was a very serious and important exercise; I served in the exercise control HQ in Hildesheim. Could we do it now? No: we have neither the kit, people nor expertise. If you wish to deter then you need to display both will and capability, sadly lacking today.

Back when defence was a serious business. Exercise Lionheart ran from 03 Sep to 05 Oct 84. It comprised 3 phases: a deployment phase (Full Flow), the employment phase (FTX Spearpoint) and a redeployment phase (Full Flow). Lionheart was the largest British Cold War exercise.

The Royal Engineers Reserve Conference was held at Chatham last weekend. Nearly 100 people from across the Corps (Regular and Reserve) attended, including Director Reserves. As an added bonus attendees spent over £1k in the Sapper Shop! @Proud_Sappers @BritishArmy @sapper_shop
