They were forcefully removed and resettled in their ancestral lands. They called it Bantustans back then. The land they were removed from was conquered by someone else. Sorry if history gives you chest pains. And ofcourse we can look back today and say "Yea no, that was wrong!" But ignoring the context is being ignorant.

Apartheid's trash economy was still the strongest on the entire continent. Nowhere else could black people have to standard of living they had under Apartheid. A "crime against humanity" was the best black people had anywhere else. Yet none of the other African countries, who treated their citizens worse than Apartheid were declared a crime against humanity.. Robert Mugabe and his Zanu-pf committed genocide and completely trashed Zimbabwe, yet that was never declared a crime against humanity.
