Typed the same two lines of "The Ring Verse" (while fighting autocorrect) on Windows 11. Notepad.exe hit 650k events (allocs/frees), ~72MB. The text I used has roughly 145 characters. Win10 - 103 events/char - 4 KB/char Win11 - 4510 events/char - 497 KB/char

@ocornut Memory in live allocations are pretty stable and stop growing after some time. Also, as someone mentioned it the comments, it's not a fair comparison (win10 vs win11) since most of the heavy allocations on win11 come from things like autocomplete or spellchecker.

@Calveit I wondered because, Dear ImGui as a principle aim to _tend_ to 0 allocation per frame, but a non-warmed up text edit would e.g. init and grow various buffers (e.g. line index, vertex/index buffers, which would perform a bunch of resize/copy, even though quickly amortizing)

@ocornut Yeah, aiming to have 0 allocations per frame is a great target. I kept cutting and pasting these lines for some time and it grew to 331 MB. To be clear, it's not the memory in live allocations, it's total amount of heap memory allocated by the application.

@realzoogies Injecting a dll to a target process which then installs hooks for selected allocators.

@Calveit How is it possible to introspect the heap structure without instrumenting the target allocator? Might be a naive question

Profiling notepad.exe with the allocation profiler: typing two lines of "The Ring Verse" triggered 15k+ allocations worth of ~600KB.

Revived one of my old pet projects and rewrote the frontend from Qt to ImGui - the iteration speed difference is honestly wild. Ended up adding a few new lenses along the way that surfaced allocation patterns I hadn’t noticed before. Super fun way to spend a weekend.

@Ryslaw Zapytałem nie z przekonaniem że Pan na pewno wie tylko że może ma Pan jakieś informacje co to blokuje :) … a lokalizacja z zaznaczeniem że jest ona niedoskonała i oczekuje na feedback jest lepsza niż całkowity jej brak :)

Czy ktoś może wyjaśnić, dlaczego modele językowe ChatGPT czy Groka radzą sobie z językiem polskim, a Inteligencja Jabłka może ogarnie to w bliżej niesprecyzowanej przyszłości?

Kiedy byłem w liceum biologia polegała na wkuwaniu na pamięć różnych niezrozumiałych formułek. Jedną z nich była ta: „gwiaździste fibroblasty mają charakter totipotencjalny”. Używaliśmy jej między sobą w znaczeniu „czeski film”. Dziś ktoś (coś?) mi ją w końcu wytłumaczył.

Discovered a very detailed castle plan sketch by Erik Dahlberg in the Swedish Archives. The Swedish Army, seeking royal treasure, captured and razed the castle in 1655. It was rebuilt after the war, but collapsed two hundred years later. The sketch enabled the reconstruction.

Holidays in Poland. My sister persuaded me to bike to Tenczyn castle ruins. The castle was built in the XIV century, survived reconstructions, fires, wars, insurrections, lightning strikes. Neglected during communist times. Restored by local authorities a few years ago.
