@mmamas1973 Widening access - yes - fully agree with opening traditional medical training to the widest range of capable people. But FFS 4 years part time training for any time served band 6 is dumbing down the medical workforce as far as it’s possible to go. This must stop, now.

Honestly I can't believe this is happening and how far uk medicine has fallen. Now you can qualify as a doctor by doing a 4 year part time course whilst working as a physiotherapist, nurse, health support worker etc. we already have graduate entry medicine in the UK why not adopt this model instead of watering down the medical degree . A medical degree from the UK used to be considered a gold standard, now it will be an international laughing stock. Why would anyone spend five or six years doing medicine , end up with 100k debt, when you can become a physician assistant or do this.

@DrLKVaughan The current service during strike action is equivalent to that delivered on every weekend in hospitals. If the government deem weekday strikes lead to unsafe care they admit that every weekend day of normal activity is equally unsafe. This proposal is purely political.

In short, while this all looks very reasonable on the surface, the details make for uncomfortable reading. This isn't just about doctors and nurses, it is about ALL workers who have any contact with the NHS. Please think hard and respond to the consultation. Fin
