Wes Streeting made big promises on the NHS. But he leaves DHSC with strikes unresolved, questions over waiting list figures, another major NHS reorganisation and growing pressure across services. The NHS now needs stability, focus and certainty.

Mental Health Awareness Week is a reminder that small actions matter. Checking in on someone, making space to talk, or asking for help can make a real difference. No one should feel they have to face things alone. #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek

Congratulations to @jamesmurray_ldn on his appointment as Secretary of State for Health and Social Care. The challenges facing health and social care are significant, and where possible we will continue to work constructively in the interests of patients, staff and families.

I am sorry to see Wes Streeting leave the Department of Health and Social Care. There were times when we worked very constructively together. However, he promised grip, delivery and better industrial relations. Instead, the NHS has seen continued strike disruption, missed performance targets, another major reorganisation, and growing pressure in maternity, urgent care and social care. His letter points to waiting lists falling by 110,000, but sector reporting today raises serious questions about unreported removals. Whoever takes on the role next must bring stability, focus and certainty to the NHS.

With reports like this landing ahead of the King’s Speech, patients could be forgiven for wondering who is actually focused on the NHS. The speech announced another major NHS reshuffle through the NHS Modernisation Bill. But patients will judge this Government on shorter waits, better access and safer care, not another NHS reshuffle while Labour is consumed by its own.

Hi Richard this is you last week with Phil Tierney who among other things has said Muslims like me shouldn’t hold public office and all mosques should be closed. Cllr Gethen turned up to one of my constituency events even though she isn’t a constituent and clearly was there to cause trouble. I had a private conversation with her and challenged her on her support and endorsement for Tierney. In fact I think I said “you need to sort the racism in your ranks.” She doubled down on her support for Tierney and then left. I had a number of SEND events that day with my constituents and will continue to do so in the future. I will go toe to toe with any Reform politician and will not stop standing up for parents and children with SEND and I won’t shy away from standing up to racism. Perhaps now, Richard, you can find your voice and finally condemn the racism by Tierney … although given your performance on Kuenssberg I won’t hold my breath dailymail.com/news/article-1…

“We need a stronger focus on early intervention, with the NHS working alongside trusted partners in the wider health ecosystem to help people take control of their health earlier and more easily.” ✍️ @StuartAndrew, Shadow Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, comments on Holland & Barrett's new report. #PartnerContent bit.ly/4cNVHCm

Patients should not pay the price when essential NHS services are disrupted. Our Alternative King’s Speech would restore protections to keep vital NHS services running during strikes. Labour’s King’s Speech must show it is serious about delivery, not more empty announcements.

Pharmacists warned Wes Streeting nearly two months ago about growing risks to medicine supplies. There has been no response, and no action. Patients need vital medicines to be there when they need them. Labour must get a grip.

Good to join @Ashley7Fox in Burnham-On-Sea and Bridgwater to hear directly from patients, staff and volunteers about the pressures facing local health and care services. These visits are important because understanding the reality on the ground is essential to getting the NHS and social care back on track. Staff are working incredibly hard, but services are under real strain.

Gambling reform has to protect people from addiction and serious mental health harm. As Minister, I was clear affordability checks must be genuinely frictionless and must not drive punters towards the black market. The Government should pause and bring this back to Parliament.

💬 "The Government must bring this back to Parliament for full democratic scrutiny." An important intervention from previous Gambling Minister @StuartAndrew, who was clear when he was in post that affordability checks should only be approved if they are proven to be fully frictionless. The opposite is happening now, and we agree with his assertion that the Government needs to bring this policy – which will have severe unintended consequences for British racing – back to parliament for full democratic scrutiny. thesun.co.uk/news/39044081/…

Today, on VE Day, we remember the generation who brought an end to war in Europe 81 years ago. We honour all those who served, those who never returned home, and the families who carried the burden of war. We will never forget the freedoms they fought for 🇬🇧
