A note to Catholics and non-Catholics alike, prompted by the recent episode of “60 Minutes.”  The Sacrament of Holy Orders (whereby a Catholic man becomes a deacon, priest, or bishop) conveys the ability to administer certain sacraments.  It does not convey some sort of magical omniscience in the field of theology, much less in other fields such as economics, immigration law, climate change, or geopolitics.  If you were clear-thinking before receiving Holy Orders, chances are you will be clear-thinking after.  Likewise, if you were mushy-headed before ….

"Trump and Rubio got rid of it." He's lying for obvious reasons. The GEC was defunded by Congress in 2024 because the Biden administration had politicized it and used it to target Republicans, under the pretext of countering disinformation. Waging political warfare was more important to them than countering actual foreign propaganda. He's trying to rewrite history because he was extensively involved in those Biden-era campaigns.

The State Department used to have a thing called the Global Engagement Center, which was designed to counter this kind of foreign propaganda. Trump and Rubio got rid of it.

3/ Romanian immigrant Ben Ferencz is the recipient, posthumously, of the Congressional Gold Medal. At age 27 he became the chief prosecutor at Nuremberg and convicted every Nazi on trial for murdering over 1 million Jews. He died three years ago at age 103. A great American!
