The aircraft carriers being absent is why Japan 🇯🇵 chose to attack when they did. USS Enterprise was on the way back from delivering marine fighters to Wake Island & was held up by bad weather, Lexington was delivering marine divers to Midway, Saratoga was in San Diego for maintenance.

Only two ships were permanently destroyed. ALL of our Aircraft carriers were conveniently not in port and did not have their usual support group with them.
