Hi friends! So I had a good night, mum has changed my dressing and we have been for a quiet walkies to look at the daffodils ❤️‍🩹🐾

Friends! I’m home 🤩❤️‍🩹 the vet said I’m a brave boy and have been the perfect patient- my leg is going to take a long time to heal. Mum has to change the top dressing every day and I’ll visit the vet twice a week for a full dressing change. Mum is obviously very happy

We also have to be very careful with my tummy… only the prescribed food which sound boring to me but mum says she is going to be very strict ❤️‍🩹🐾

Pippin update : if nothing drastic occurs overnight Pippin comes home tomorrow 🥳❤️‍🩹🐾 the vet is happy with his progress and today is the best I have seen him, his usual playful self and wrestling with the Pipodile 🐊

@ColliePip Ah this is great news! Pleased the procedure went well. Sorry it’ll be such a long healing process but I’m sure with you taking care of him he will be just fine. Did the vet have a view on the laser treatment as an option for the wound?

Pippin update : spoke to his usual vet this morning. He hasn’t seen him since Thursday. He was very happy to see the improvements and said if he continues whilst they wean off the opioids he can come home tomorrow 🥳❤️‍🩹🐾

@ColliePip Brilliant. Thanks for the updates. It’s ridiculous how attached you get to a dog who isn’t yours and you’ve never even met.

He is hoping he can teach me to do the dressing myself so not as many features needed. But the wound management is key whilst we battle the PLE. Hoping to visit later today. If I can, I’ll get more photos of the boy and more updates ❤️‍🩹🐾

@ColliePip Sounds positive. And lovely to see him again, looking much more like his usual cheeky self. Huge huge hugs to you. Cannot imagine how hard this must be xxx

Pippin update: the surgeon said his operation went well and the tissue under the dead skin looks healthy enough. He will likely have an open wound for around 4 months because that’s how long he likely needs to stay on the steroids for. It won’t heal until he is off them

@ColliePip Oh that’s kind of good and bad. Hopefully the warmer weather will make life easier for him

@juliarice43 I think they are using a medical jelly: he will be on that for a few months whilst they keep the wound open

@ColliePip Oh, I really hope he can come home. Could Manuka honey help prevent infection? Only mention it because I've seen vet Noel Fitzpatrick use it. I'm keeping everything crossed for you and Pip❤️🙏

@lizzyloucollie @h_quant It is filled with a gel and wrapped with a “wet” dressing. Then a regular dressing on top. Keeping the wound wet is apparently key

@ColliePip If it gets colder or you are aware of swelling after a dressing change, the dressing is on too tight & is affecting circulation.

It was lovely to see him today, he is as fairly perky (considering he’s not long had his painkillers) and played with a stick on the grass, before having a little sleep on my legs ❤️‍🩹🐾 thank you again to everyone for your love and support: it’s means a lot to me and Pip ❤️‍🩹🐾

It’s about an hour from home but more than worth it if he can come home. I’m a little scared about re infection, as it will be an open wound. But I will have a really good discussion with the vets before he comes home.
