“My mommy's mitochondria doesn't work that well.” 💛 These are the words of our founder, Mitzi Solomon's children, sharing what it’s like when mitochondrial dysfunction affects the person you love most. When mitochondria don’t function properly, energy, health, and daily life can look very different. This is why Countdown For A Cure was started. Born from one family’s lived experience, unanswered questions, and a gap in science that could no longer be ignored. Mitochondrial dysfunction impacts millions, yet research remains critically underfunded. By supporting @Countdown4ACure, you’re helping fund the science that brings understanding, treatments, and hope to so many families. Because cellular energy matters. ✨ - - - #MitochondrialHealth #CellularHealth #MitochondrialFunction #HealthyMoms #ChronicFatigue

“Mitochondria are more than just the ‘powerhouses’ of the cell—we need to reeducate the public.” — Colwyn (CoCo) Headley, PhD, Chair of Countdown’s Scientific & Medical Advisory Board As @CoCo_Headley explains, mitochondria are the conductors of the cell, coordinating energy, signaling, and function across the entire system. And aging? It’s the gradual process of that orchestration falling out of tune. At Countdown, our mission is to bring mitochondria into everyday conversations around health, wellness, and longevity. When we unite scientists, institutions, philanthropy, brands, and a growing community of voices, we accelerate more than awareness—we accelerate the science itself. And with it, the opportunity to transform how we diagnose, treat, and ultimately prevent disease at a cellular level. Join the Countdown. - - - #JointheCountdown #MitochondrialResearch #FutureofHealth #CellularHealth

Can light influence how our cells produce and manage energy? New observational research is beginning to explore how targeted red and near-infrared light therapy may affect mitochondrial efficiency, the cellular systems responsible for energy production. The 30-day observational study was led by Dr. Zulia Frost of Recharge Health, with clinical collaborator Greg Eckel of bVital Clinical Research. Recharge Health co-founder and CEO Bjørn Ekeberg notes that these findings reflect a growing interest in how photobiomodulation may support the body’s cellular energy systems. Recharge Health are the creators of @theflexbeam, which combines red and near-infrared light and is designed to support recovery, pain relief, and overall wellbeing. While early, research like this reflects increasing interest in technologies that may help measure and support cellular energy systems. At Countdown For A Cure, we believe expanding the science around mitochondrial function is essential to understanding health, disease, and human performance. How do you think technologies like light therapy could play a role in the future of mitochondrial research? What do mitochondria and a broken-down car have in common? 🚗🔧 CFAC Scientific & Medical Advisory Board Chair Dr. @CoCo_Headley often uses a simple analogy: when a car’s engine fails, repairing or replacing it can help get it running again. In our bodies, mitochondria play a similar role. They produce the energy that powers nearly every biological process ⚡ At Stanford University School of Medicine, Dr. Headley studies how mitochondrial dysfunction shapes aging and disease. His research explores how targeted mitochondrial transplantation and mitochondrial bioengineering could be adapted for a wide range of conditions, including cardiovascular diseases, immune aging, neurodegeneration, and cancer prevention/therapy 🧬 Supported by the American Heart Association, the Burroughs Wellcome Fund, and NASA 🚀, his work reflects the growing importance of mitochondrial science in understanding health, disease, and aging. ⚡ Because so much of health comes back to cellular energy. - - - #Mitochondria #CellularEnergy #MitochondrialResearch #LongevityScience #CountdownForACure #ROS #Healthspan #Longevity #Cancer

Thanks a Million 💛 Because of this community, the 2026 Evening of Energy raised over $1 million to advance mitochondrial research, the foundation of human health. But this wasn’t just about one night. It was about redefining what a cure can mean: a continuum of discovery, care, and possibility, powered by cellular energy, collective belief, and this community. To everyone who showed up, supported, and stood with us, thank you. Your generosity is helping move mitochondrial science forward and shape what comes next. And to those who supported from afar through donations and silent auction bidding, we are so grateful. And don’t worry, we’ve got all the photos, videos, and moments coming soon, so you can relive the energy of the evening right along with us ✨ With gratitude, Mitzi Solomon + the Countdown for a Cure Team - - - #ThanksAMillion #EveningOfEnergy #MitochondriaMatter #FutureOfHealth #MitochondrialHealth

Grateful to Benedict Albensi, Ph.D., Chair of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Professor at the Barry and Judy Silverman College of Pharmacy at Nova Southeastern University, for sharing his perspective on mitochondrial transplantation and the critical hurdles that must be addressed to make this transformative therapy widely available to support the millions who stand to benefit. Advancing mitochondrial transplantation will require more than scientific innovation alone. It requires aligned funding, coordinated research, regulatory navigation, and sustained community advocacy. Funding remains one of the largest barriers but it is one we are committed to addressing together. Alongside @MitoAction, @MitoCanada, @Cure_Mito, @Cure4ARS, and @NorthwellHealth, @Countdown4ACure is working collectively to raise awareness, mobilize resources, and accelerate the path from research to real-world application. This is what progress looks like: organizations aligning. Scientists sharing knowledge. Advocates amplifying the urgency. Patient communities staying engaged. - - - #FutureOfMedicine #MitochondrialTransplantation #MitochondriaMatter #MitochondrialHealth

“Disease moves quickly. To truly change lives, we have to move faster,” said President & Co-Founder Mitzi Solomon On February 7th, our third annual Evening of Energy at The St. Regis Atlanta raised over $1 million to advance mitochondrial research - the science of cellular energy and the foundation of human health. When a community unites around bold science, progress accelerates. This was more than a gala; this was momentum. We are deeply grateful to every host, honoree, sponsor, partner, and guest who helped make this evening historic. But this is only the beginning. Together, we must continue to move at the speed and scale this work requires and deserves. Grateful to celebrate and advocate alongside @drtazmd, Douglas C. Wallace, PhD, Natalie Yivgi-Ohana, PhD of @Minovia_tx, Sonya Knebel, InPrime Legal, MoveDocs, and our incredible co-chairs Jenni Nowak and Maggie Awbrey. Energy is everything. ✨ @AliciaKeys reminds us that energy is a gift and part of wisdom is knowing when to preserve your energy and when to give it. That kind of awareness is powerful. What we don’t always realize is that how we give and receive energy—emotionally and physically—directly affects our bodies. Chronic stress. Burnout. Inflammation. Aging. Even disease. It all begins at the cellular level. At the center of it are our mitochondria, the systems within our cells that regulate how we produce and sustain energy. When we are constantly depleted, our biology feels it. At @Countdown4ACure, we fund research focused on protecting and restoring human energy at the cellular level because energy isn’t just a feeling. It’s a foundation. And when we understand energy at its foundation, we change the future of health. - - - #MitochondriaMatter #EnergyIsLife #CountdownForACure #AliciaKeys #EnergyIsEverything

Often called the father of mitochondrial medicine, Doug C. Wallace, PhD, didn’t just advance a field, he pioneered it. He was the first to show that mutations in mitochondrial DNA can cause human disease and that mitochondrial DNA is inherited exclusively from mothers, transforming how we understand health, aging, and disease, and even how we trace human origins. Through decades of groundbreaking research and mentorship, including his leadership at the Center for Mitochondrial and Epigenomic Medicine at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Dr. Wallace has helped shape an entire generation of scientists working at the intersection of energy, aging, and disease. He has also been one of Countdown for a Cure’s greatest supporters—a true friend and mentor to our founder, Mitzi Solomon, and an early believer in the importance of funding, educating, and advocating for mitochondrial science when it was still largely overlooked. Tonight, at the Evening of Energy Gala, we honor Dr. Douglas C. Wallace, PhD with the first-ever Countdown for a Cure Award—recognizing a lifetime dedicated to advancing mitochondrial medicine and bringing mitochondria out of the shadows and into the spotlight. - - - #CountdownForACure #MitochondriaMatter #MitochondrialMedicine #Healthspan #LongevityScience #ScientificLegacy
