@susanbordson @IAPolls2022 @rosanthony3 If what you say is true (and I’d point out that Obama won Florida, Ohio and Iowa twice with a dark complexion and a middle name of Hussein), then the solution is simple: run a white guy for President!

@IAPolls2022 @rosanthony3 American culture still favors white men over other demographic groups — even if the folks in the other demographic groups have similar records of achievements and similar relevant experience. And even if they have *more* skills & qualifications, in many cases

The thing I find most annoying about Palestine becoming the left’s omnicause is it has wiped out activism and messaging on nearly every other topic. Nobody talks about climate change, universal healthcare, corporate consolidation, housing, global far-right ascension, worker’s rights, you name it. Don’t get me wrong, Palestine is very important, but it’s not the only thing that matters and every unrelated group shifting their focus to Palestine effectively cedes the ground on every other issue to the right.

NEW: President Trump says the United States had to surprise Iran with an attack, just like Japan did at Pearl Harbor, while sitting next to Japan's Prime Minister. Reporter: Why didn't you tell U.S allies ... like Japan about the war before attacking Iran? Trump: You don't want to signal too much. We went in very hard and we didn't tell anybody about it because we wanted surprise. Who knows better about surprise than Japan? Why didn't you tell me about Pearl Harbor?

No. I called for Netanyahu to resign 2 weeks after October 7th. I oppose Netanyahu, and I support Israel. Just like I oppose Trump, and I support America. Respectfully, this is a silly take.👇

@WalshFreedom You support Israel. That means you support Netanyahu as well?

Josh Shapiro: “The guy who is supposed to be in charge of this, Pete Hegseth, is wildly incompetent. He’s like an 8-year-old playing with toy soldiers every day. His language is so fucking offensive. They talk about this in a way that doesn’t respect the humanity in the region and certainly is disrespectful to our soldiers”

Wrong, it's not an 'ancient and rampant evil.' It's blowback and the tragic and predictable result of U.S. and Israeli foreign policy. Can we stop pretending that our actions have no consequences?
CSPAN@cspan

Michigan @GovWhitmer expressed support for the state's Jewish community after yesterday's attack on a synagogue: "Yesterday's attack was antisemitism…we will fight this ancient and rampant evil, we will stand together as we do it, and we will call it out."

Today is the jahrzeit of the great late-Soviet composer Sofia Gubaidulina (1931–2025). In this podcast Flotation Devices examines her final work, the no-nonsense devotional piece The Wrath of God, which we contrast with her more cheerful Fairy Tale Poem. mixcloud.com/FlotationDevic…

@IsleLesbos The shift from “gay/lesbian” to “queer”—largely foisted by a generation of activists who weren’t around for Stonewall, AIDS and the fight for marriage equality—has done so much harm to gay acceptance and activism. Allowing self-ID undermines the basic argument for equal rights.

@IonaItalia @aziz0nomics I think that having one of the most monolithic populations in Western Europe, and being relatively isolated geographically, might cause the Irish polity to lurch suddenly and more erratically that would be the case in Germany, France or the UK.

I consider myself a classic political Liberal, in that I favor an enlightenment understanding of a healthy society --constitutional democracies with protections of basic individual/group rights including freedom of speech, faith, and ways of living. Yet history shows liberalism only works when there's also a shared foundational moral order—not uniformity in thin culture, but enough overlapping thick culture that people restrain themselves from pushing freedoms to socially destructive extremes, even when legally permitted. You might in theory allow "anything goes" but people respect others enough to restrain themselves from going too rogue. You might legally permit offensive speech, but people restrain themselves out of mutual respect PS: Restraining themselves isn't exactly right word, because most people often don't even "think to do that" because it is so obviously destructive. Shame exists.
Chris Arnade 🐢🐱🚌@Chris_arnade

Everyone blames monetization for all the crazy conspiracies and takes out there -- and it certainly is an accelerate -- but I see it more as a result of there being no dominant moral arbitrator anymore. Not only in the rigid "you can't behave like that" sense, but in the "You can trust in me to be honest" sense. The meritocratic elites (press, academia, institutions) had it for awhile, but in the public's eyes they squandered it away (Covid stomped the last bits of it out) and there has yet to emerge a replacement. Until then, it is anything goes.
