Good Evening, Alabama Citizens! Your Republican super majority in Montgomery just stripped your voice & control over public utilities in the state of Alabama. Be sure to thank your State Senator & State Representative. And don't forget to tip your bartender. #alpolitics

Sorry to interrupt liftoff fun, but the House has concurred with Senate changes to the PSC overhaul bill. Final passage. Original sponsor wanted to go to conference committee but that was voted down. Goes to governor. #alpolitics

Alabama House Ways and Means Education Committee Chairman, State Rep. @DannyGarrett44, said Tuesday in an interview with “The Rightside” in partnership with Yellowhammer News that Alabama school choice represents a modest investment relative to the state’s total education spending — and reflects a broader shift toward giving Alabama families more options. Garrett pushed back on claims that the CHOOSE Act is draining resources from public education, putting the $100 million school choice allocation in perspective against Alabama’s $10.9 billion education budget. “If I gave you $50,000 and said, give me $600 back — that’s the magnitude of the $100 million we’re putting towards school choice in terms of what the education community receives,” Garrett said. “So it’s not the big focus. It should not be the focus.” Garrett was responding to a recent opinion piece in which a North Alabama superintendent claimed school choice was costing his system hundreds of millions of dollars. Garrett dismissed the figure as mathematically unsound. “I think somebody needs some remedial math,” Garrett said. The chairman said school choice reflects how Alabamians live and what they expect from public institutions. “Everybody in life today wants customization, flexibility and choice in every aspect of our life, and yet we have this education box,” Garrett said. “Open that school choice door — it opens the door to customization, flexibility and choice, which needs to happen in public education.” Read full story here: yellowhammernews.com/chairman-garre… #Alabama #ALPolitics #SchoolChoice #Education #EdPolicy

@DannyGarrett44 @TrussTribune @ALGOP $250M loss based on $7k/student voucher. Where’s or what’s the additional loss coming from? Can’t be losing 35k students. Is the fear of a federal or state match loss? I may have this all confused. 250M seems excessive on the surface unless used for bond matching.

Public school funding: > $8 BILLION School choice: < $150 million Funding isn’t the problem in the public school system. And neither is the legislature stepping up to fix what has long been broken. ⁦@TrussTribune@algopal.com/news/2026/02/s…

The bill future Governor Tuberville supports; *Takes away your right to vote for PSC *Appoints industry insiders *Requires DEI appointments Stop calling Alabama "the reddest state in America." #alpolitics
Yellowhammer News@yhn

U.S. Senator and 2026 frontrunner to become the next Governor of Alabama, @CoachForGov, voiced his support Wednesday for the multi-bill utility reform package moving through the Alabama Legislature. In a weekly call with in-state reporters, Tuberville urged lawmakers to pass the legislative package, saying the current Public Service Commission members who fail to keep rates down “need to go immediately.” “I’ve read this bill, and it’s very simple. We’re in a land rush. Companies are coming back to the U.S., and Alabama, with a heavy focus on moving all over the Southeast. It’s all state energy. It’s for these new industries, and I want to make sure our utilities are being responsible with taxpayer dollars,” Tuberville said. “The PSC isn’t aligned with the state leadership to keep utility rates down, which they need to be, and stop ridiculous regulations from being implemented. If they don’t do that, then they need to go immediately, not at the end of a six-year term,” he continued. “Alabama is one of only 10 states that elect their public service commissioners, and even with that, all three of Alabama’s current commissioners have been appointed, not elected. We need to raise the bar and ensure the right, qualified people are overseeing our utilities, not politicians looking for their next job or doing political favors when they’re up for reelection or election.” Read full story here: yellowhammernews.com/tuberville-cal… #Alabama #ALPolitics #Energy #Elections

@DannyGarrett44 @ScottButtram When certain schools get anyone they want now immediately, then more complaining will happen. Hard to please 424 high schools at different levels and sizes.

@griffsz @ScottButtram That’s not accurate. Players still must follow bona fide move rules unless going to a private school in their district

@DannyGarrett44 @ScottButtram We are trying to discuss education and athletics in same umbrella. It's two different things. AHSAA is looking at on field side of it. Politics on education side. It's against the law now because a law was passed. It wasn't before. So now, players can go anywhere.

@DannyGarrett44 @ScottButtram And I assume that's why you guys did what you did. Again, I'm painting the entire picture that has been left out of the discussion. Politics changed the law. Now it's against the law. It wasn't before.

@DannyGarrett44 @ScottButtram Yes. But again, my point is that you still had choice. If you chose not to take the money for one year then you could be eligible to play immediately. There was choice. What do you agree or disagree just pointing out that there was choice.
