@DavidJohnButler This name totally resonates, and is better than "middle brow" (which is the term I've used myself for the same concept).

I've had a project in the works for a bit now. Today I'm launching a new YouTube channel. The channel is High Low Brow. Its name comes from literary critic William Morris, who used the term to describe *my* fiction (I'm not saying he coined the term for me, I'm saying this is where I first heard it). It means popular art that low brow in form, e.g. genre fiction, but contains elevating elements. I've heard Neal Stephenson describe novels in this space as rollicking adventure tales that also contain big ideas. So on High Low Brow, I'll be talking about the books, music, TV shows, graphic novels, and visual art that I like. I'll interview people who make that art and people who like. High Low Brow. Because culture matters, and I also want to have fun. (links in the replies)

@DavidJohnButler Watched it. I enjoyed it. Subscribed to it. Looking forward to the next one. I think reading the LoTR when young has a huge impact. I read it at 11-12 and it blew me away. Keep up the good work.

@DavidJohnButler I was shocked my professor would let me take it as religiously as I did. LOL! On the whole, I think I enjoyed my King Arthur course better, though only slightly. Dickens wasn’t bad either. And everyone loooooooves Shakespeare.

@DavidJohnButler Subscribed to the channel, and looking forward to listening to the first episode. I remember taking an entire semester of Tolkien, and it was one of my favorites for my English major.

I’m assuming it’s because of AI. But maybe she just made up cases.

The technology isn’t going to go away. Unless we have severe norms about this - like ‘You’re disbarred if you cite fake cases because of AI’/‘Tenure doesn’t protect AI research fraud’/etc - we’re going to see more and more of this.

An absolutely excruciating moment at the Georgia Supreme Court this week. Justice Peterson pressed state attorney Deborah Leslie over her citations to cases that apparently don’t exist.

@merrynick13 @DavidJohnButler The first video is spectacular! It gave me lots of new insight into some aspects of LOTR cosmology I never even knew was there.
