1/ Thank you to Fizbo the Clown (aka @DrewPavlou) for drawing my attention to the fact that I’ve never got round to pinning a Tweet to explain my opposition to independence for Tibet. So let me put that right…

Hey hey hey @adrianzenz ! I've literally just arrived in Xinjiang to research a book I'm writing, and as luck would have it the first thing I see is your post! It's only Day 1 and I’ve already hit paydirt! Launched in 1986, the Kekeya project is a decades-long initiative to green the Gobi Desert around Aksu and turn the area into an oasis. It has been hugely successful – transforming almost 800 km2 of wind-swept barren stone, rock, and sand into belts of environmental poplar and fruit-bearing orchard. The young Uygur woman who presented it to me was proud to tell me that, like tens of thousands of other locals of all ages and backgrounds, she volunteers for a few days once or twice a year during the planting season to extend the area. The Han woman from the local publicity bureau added that she too was a volunteer. To anyone with a shred of human decency, Kekeya is a shining triumph of mass mobilisation and prolonged communal effort in the face of the harshest natural conditions imaginable. However, to an accomplished writer like me, cherry-picking a few key concepts from the story – “government project”, “hard labour”, “unpaid”, “Uygur” – It would be child’s play to transform it into a harrowing tale of horror: “Beneath the baking desert sun, Uygur slaves toil unpaid under the jackboot of their pitiless communist oppressors, working on a political vanity project designed for no other reason than to add gloss to CCP CVs... Just a few kilometres away, a brand-new hospital for women and children is almost complete. Its purpose? To accelerate the extraction of organs from Uygurs who succumb to heat, exhaustion, or thirst...” (icing on the cake or what!) I would be profoundly grateful if you would put me in touch with your paymasters, so I can find out how much money they will give me for my story. I would also be honoured if you would add your seal of approval to my efforts. And it would be just fantastic if you could cobble together some “leaked documents” to back up my version of events! @AndyBxxx @ShangguanJiewen

My 2nd article on the new witness outlines game-changing new evidence on Uyghur forced labor and forced cotton harvesting. Zhang, the former policeman, provides groundbreaking evidence on coercive nature and continuation of forced labor in Xinjiang to date. A thread:

"It's so toxic" says @campbellclaret about the debate over last April's Supreme Court ruling reminding everyone what a woman is, as he points to women celebrating with champagne. But of course he doesn't bother to mention the *truly* toxic side of this issue ⬇️

Get a load of these absolute tossers… like a chimp’s tea party. Short of chucking their own dung at each other, these two men, yet again, demonstrate how obnoxiously ignorant they remain about the entire issue. Bore off. Seriously.

One common feature in western empire propaganda is that we are always given reasons for the empire's violence, while the violence of those who resist the empire gets framed as happening for no reason at all. We've all been fed reasons for the US-Israeli war on Iran, and we all know what those reasons are. Even less-informed members of the western public have heard something about the Iranians being a nuclear threat, having a tyrannical government, and maybe something about sponsoring terrorist groups. But the so-called "peaceful protesters" who were killed in an uprising fomented and facilitated by the United States? They were killed for no reason, simply because the Iranian government is evil and hates dissent. All the Iranian police officers who died in the uprising perished for no reason, perhaps of natural causes. It is only by pure coincidence that this happened at the exact same time the US empire was making the decision to try to topple the Iranian government. We've all been given the official reasons why Israel has spent years blanketing the Gaza Strip with military explosives: Israel was attacked by Hamas on October 7 2023, so it needs to get rid of Hamas for its own security. But why did the Hamas attack happen? It happened for no reason. If you look to the propagandists in the western press for answers, October 7 happened solely because Hamas are evil and wanted to kill Jews because of their religion. Absolutely no mention of Israel's savage treatment of Palestinians for generations, or the dreadful living conditions imposed upon the giant concentration camp that Gaza had become. We've been told why the western empire is pouring weapons into Ukraine: Ukraine was invaded by Russia. The empire wants to protect the freedom and democracy of the Ukrainian people, and to deter future expansionism by Vladimir Putin. Why did Russia invade Ukraine? No reason. Putin's just evil and hates freedom, that's all. Sure, countless western experts and analysts had been warning for years that NATO aggressions were going to lead to a war on Russia's border, but they were just rambling lunatics whose forecasts of war were proven correct by pure coincidence. Our entire understanding of history is framed in this way. Fidel Castro killed people in Cuba. Why did he kill them? No reason; he was just a mean jerk. All the violence of the socialist revolutionaries around the world overthrowing the abusive governments which preceded them is framed as causeless genocidal carnage inflicted by murderous tyrants who simply loved killing people. The desperation caused by the capitalist exploitation that had been imposed upon those populations is completely redacted from our history books. A mature understanding of our world begins with a curiosity about why the violence is happening. Violence is not always justified, but there is always a reason why it happens. Western pundits, politicians and newscasters will very seldom tell you what those reasons are unless it advances the interests of the western empire, so if you want to have a truth-based understanding of what's really going on in our world, you need to actively seek out the answers for yourself.

Possibly but then the 600 million people who lived until 60 instead of dying at 40 probably wouldn’t. Let’s do a quick Benthamite utilitarian calculation: Mao was personally responsible for the deaths of 50 million people during the famine. 50 million x average 20 years of life each… equals exactly 1 billion life years. Obviously then Mao was also personally responsible for the increase in life expectancy from 40 to 60. 600 million ppl x average 20 years of life each… equals 12 billion life years. Net balance in favour of Mao… 11 billion life years. That’s game set and match I think.

@DavidLiFerguson @zagrebbi @DrewPavlou @ATabarrok i bet the 50 million who starved to death would have preferred it

@embradon @asimonlee1 @DrewPavlou That's true. But other people will still read his comments, nod to themselves, and say "Yup, he got you there Ferguson. You don't have an answeer to that..." Whereas in fact I do have an answer, and it's important to present it.

Yes China would be far more successful today if it had followed the Korea/Taiwan model: anti-communist dictatorship eventually democratising
David Ferguson@DavidLiFerguson

@zagrebbi Ah yes, @zagrebbi @DrewPavlou @ATabarrok If only China had been a fully-functioning military dictatorship under martial law for forty-odd years, propped up by American weapons and cash, it could have enjoyed the same economic miracle as Taiwan.... Stoopid "authoritarians".

The average democratic Indian dies ten years younger than the average commie Chinese. But all that "death" never counts in the minds of Westoids and their cucks.

You make a very good point. As rulers of the mainland Chiang and his cronies, even propped up by US weapons and cash, were comically incompetent. But they were capable of governing an island of 12 million people. The CPC, even in the face of unrelenting US hostility and sanctions, were capable of governing a territory of 600 million people.

@zagrebbi @DavidLiFerguson @DrewPavlou @ATabarrok They literally had that model, and it didn't work. And it wasn't because of the war, it was because Chiang and his cronies back in the mainland were comically incompetent. They only course-corrected somewhat after having their asses handed to them by the Communists.

Sure blep. Hey, guess what. India's "not being ruled by commies" either. And India makes a hell of a lot better comparison with China than Taiwan does. Feel free to answer the question posed at the end of this 90-second video. It's been viewed by more than a quarter of a million people, and not a single Westoid - or one of their cucks like you appear to be - has ever been able to come up with a coherent response. x.com/DavidLiFerguso…

Sorry blep but that ain't the modus operandi any more. As a neighbour of China you're excellently well-placed to receive "help" from the USA, but this is how it now works: 1. Install a set of puppets in your government 2. Stoke up needless conflict between you and China 3. Continue the provocation until war breaks out 4. Contine to feed you with weaponry as long as you have a man left alive 5. Preside over the total destruction of your country 6. Rub their hands with glee at all the damage you managed to inflict on China 7. Take over anything that's left of Kazakhstan On the plus side, a few of your oligarchs will become very rich indeed - we're talking hundreds of millions of dollars. Best of luck.

I'll check out your data with great relish. I see it was produced by ASPI so it's sure to be full of reliable, unbiased information. Meanwhile, as I say I'm in Aksu. So could you speed things up a little for me by letting me know exactly where I should go while I'm here? Oh and if you know of any concentration camps that would be great too. Half of the adult working population of Uygurs are in concentration camps (about 3 million people) so that should be very easy too.

Unfortunately, as I've just pointed out to @DrewPavlou, the US only ever had and has the means to prop up relatively small military dictatorships under martial law with their weapons and cash. The whole of China would have been much too big a bite to swallow. So that was never really an option.
