What are "gods"? I think the problem is that I reject a materialist ontology altogether. For an atheist in modern western society gods are pictures from story books. But for me, you are just as miraculous as parting of the Red Sea. Who am I speaking with right now? A complicated chemical reaction, or a free will first person conscious agent? If materialism is true, there can't be a free will first person conscious agent. If you are typing back a thought because it is true and follows the laws of logic than that is as miraculous as a man rising from the dead. If your response is deterministically set by electro chemical reactions and there is no "you" then who am I arguing with?
