CBS' @JenniferJJacobs reports that President Trump's primetime address is likely to be critical of NATO. Earlier today, Mr. Trump threatened to withdraw from the transatlantic military alliance. A 2023 law co-authored by then-Sen. Marco Rubio gives that power to Congress, not the president. In 2024, he told @margbrennan that “Congress needs to play a role” in any U.S. decision to withdraw from the transatlantic alliance.

I don’t think the “NATO alliance” has any opinion on this, as it is not yet an Article 4 or Article 5 situation. However, countries are countries and may object to US usage of their airspace and bases for missions incompatible with international law. You know this as well as I Marco. Why pretend otherwise?

SECRETARY RUBIO: NATO wasn’t just about defending Europe, but allowing us to have military bases in Europe for our national security. If we’ve reached a point where the NATO alliance means that we can’t use those bases to defend our interests, then it’s a one-way street.

Today, Trump signed an executive order that would let the federal government determine who is allowed to vote by mail, block ballots from reaching voters not on a Washington-approved list, and punish any state that pushes back.
This is unconstitutional in every direction. States run elections, not the president, and no executive order changes that.
The Supreme Court has already settled the funding question: Washington cannot hold states hostage to force compliance with federal demands. Directing the Postal Service to determine which voters receive a ballot goes far beyond anything the executive branch is permitted to do.
Trump voted by mail this year, as he has in years past, and so did the First Lady and his son.
So when he tells you this is about election integrity, understand exactly what he means: it is about making sure fewer people who disagree with him can vote in November.
