We need to understand where Trump supporters are coming from. Just telling people they are wrong doesn’t change their minds. This post is spot on, and the comments have some added perspective. To be sure a lot is based on misinformation, but other perspectives do have at least some truth about things that need to be fixed. Jamie Dimon got in trouble for suggesting we listen a few weeks ago, but I agree. I don’t support Trump, but I do support the country. To become more unified, we need to find common ground on what needs to be fixed and hear each other. grumpy-economist.com/p/understandin…

@simonateba So what? The Democratic party of the 1850's was a completely different people and platform. This is completely irrelevant.

Most people outside the United States and many inside the USA do not know that the Democrats were behind slavery, founded the KKK and started a civil war to maintain slavery in America. The liberal judges in the Supreme Court even ruled that a slave was a property not a citizen. The Republicans ended slavery and dissented when the Supreme Court ruled that a slave was a property. Abraham Lincoln, a Republican President ended slavery and he was assassinated. Carol Swain (@carolmswain) gives us a small history course on slavery in America.

MSNBC capitulating to Trump with the Kristen Welkers and Katy Turs would be comical if not so frightening. He has already stated that he will remove MSNBC from the air and yet you think you can kiss the ring. Trump doesn’t forgive or forget. The reality is, he’s gleefully watching you grovel while relishing in the thought of the humiliating retribution he is going to heap on you if returned to power. You’re the Lindsey Graham of media and just sweetening to pot of his psychopathic soup…

Generally, it's best to do the most important things first. But sometimes I don't feel like it. These are my favorite ways to get going. Do just one small thing. I just write the first line of an email or article. Or just make one call. Often after the small thing, I'm in the mood to continue the effort. Do the task in front of you as fast as possible. When you can't decide your priority, do the most immediate task as quickly as possible. Clearing the path opens up your mind. Reframe. At times you can decide to look at things a different way. A presentation can seem scary or be an opportunity to learn.

Watching other people perform a physical skill can make you unduly confident about your ability to do it. I can definitely say watching golf or pickleball hasn't made me any better at either of them. Nonetheless, I ran across a study a few days ago that people often *feel* like they are better at activities after watching them. It seems the knowledge of the steps involved increases confidence, even though it's the feel of doing it yourself that you need. It's worth thinking about when creating learning and development. Or when considering the limits of what you can learn from an AI chatbot.

@RagingKuJo1222 @kimmagagal2 There is no cause of action. The case should never have gone to trial. It’s all a circus for television.

Alina Habba is absolutely on the mark. There's no victim whatsoever. The order for Trump to pay the $364 million is a great injustice to our country. The real fraud is committed by the far left. The actual victims is Trump & people who support him.

Learning is often enhanced when it's fun and interactive. I've designed and held numerous trainings and offsites that included activities like process simulations, collaboration games, and team competitions. But, I've never used F-35 flight simulators! Sounds fun though. thesquadron.com

Now that 70% percent of corporate buildings have been converted to open office plans, it's been determined they are a trainwreck. Open office plans were supposed to make it easier for people to collaborate. But numerous problems have been found over the last few years. For example, researchers from Bond University in Australia concluded there is "a significant causal relationship between open-plan office noise and physiological stress." fastcompany.com/90652947/scien… Many other studies have found other negative aspects about the noise, distractions, lack of one's own space, and other impacts on #workplacewellbeing. I like to reference the Bond University study for its sophisticated methodology that uses facial recognition and presence tracking. (Okay I have research methodology envy.) If you're thinking, "Hey, I like the open office concept," you are not alone. Some studies have shown 70%-plus of people surveyed will say they like it because it fosters creativity and collaboration. Personality types might be a factor there. But is surveying feelings a good way to measure productivity? (Answer: No) During the pandemic, I saw proposed new office designs for plastic partitions and social distancing between workstations. Or alternating who could be in the office at once to reduce crowding. Did any of that stick? So now with the pandemic in the rearview mirror and the battle over return to office vs work from home still raging, what are people seeing? Is the open office concept still winning? One last point: While the widespread popularity of the open office plan is new, the idea is not. Shown below on the left is one designed by Frank Lloyd Wright design for the S.C. Johnson Company in 1939. And it still exists! You can even tour it. How the design is implemented might matter. On the right is a typical modern implementation. Frank did it better.

Could Trump legally not come to the defense of NATO? “the laws of the United States which shall be made in pursuance thereof; and all treaties made, or which shall be made, under the authority of the United States, shall be the supreme law of the land….” Article VI, Clause 2 of the U. S. Constitution.
Laurence Tribe 🇺🇦 ⚖️@tribelaw

A brilliant retired lawyer from Minnesota, Albert T. Goins, has given me permission to quote this excerpt from his latest observations about Mr. Trump’s willingness to to give aid and support to those who would attack our allies: “Perhaps, Mr. Trump forgot (if he ever knew) that our international obligations and treaties—such as those we undertook as members of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization—are themselves the supreme law of the land as recognized at Article VI of our Constitution.  As the so-called supremacy clause states in relevant part:  “This Constitution, and the laws of the United States which shall be made in pursuance thereof; and all treaties made, or which shall be made, under the authority of the United States, shall be the supreme law of the land….” Article VI, Clause 2 of the U. S. Constitution. Now, Mr. Trump’s inane remarks are likely well with the zone of protected political speech under our First Amendment rights, but his South Carolina statement evinces Trump’s fundamental unfitness to serve as President—and reveals his willingness to turn our treaty obligations into a seamy political ‘protection racket.’ And, Trump’s claims that he would encourage an adversary to attack an ally based on his personal view that they were ‘delinquent’ in making financial contributions to that alliance raise more serious concerns.  Donald Trump’s statements in South Carolina may not themselves rise to the level of an insurrection, but they clearly reveal the fact that if he regains office Mr. Trump is poised to unravel the binding obligations which the Constitution has imposed upon every  president from Washington to Biden.”

It's easier to be trustworthy if you have clear ideas about what actions are needed. I always found these 5Cs of trust, reportedly from management guru Warren Bennis, to provide useful clarity for leaders.

I'm not even going to try to predict if Taylor Swift will announce support for Biden over Trump or get proposed to at the Super Bowl. But I'll continue with one last prediction of a slight 49ers advantage over the Chiefs based on my casual model that is 3-0 so far! But for a better way to win, see my article open.substack.com/pub/dougwalton…

Polar bear populations have stabilized over the last 40 years due to conservation efforts, but there is still the threat that global warming might reduce the populations by 30-60% in the next few decades. arcticwwf.org/wildlife/polar…
