Our findings indicate for the 1st time in a longitudinal human cohort, that early synaptic dysfunction is a potential trigger of TREM2-dependent microglial activation. This activation is protective for synaptic function possibly underlying the cognitive correlate

👉We found that a biomarker profile indicating early synapse dysfunction was related to a higher longitudinal increase of sTREM2 in the absence of AD-suggestive biomarker profile. 👉Higher levels of sTREM2 at baseline were related to a more stable neurogranin over time
