For years, I’ve been warning that this issue is a ticking time bomb. From Ikate to Ajah, able-bodied boys, girls, men, and women are scattered everywhere, doing nothing but begging all day. Someday, the younger ones among them will grow too old to beg and may turn to full-time crime. I know of a woman who was begging near Jakande Roundabout around 2010 and had triplets, all boys. Today, those boys are grown, and all they do is beg in traffic. The sooner the government finds a way to address this issue, the better. To those who give them money, you’re only encouraging them by making begging lucrative. The more you give, the more others join the trade. The EndSARS protests should serve as an eye-opener for those in affluent areas. When push comes to shove, these individuals will likely target y'all first. Until then, we’ll keep pretending everything is fine. 🤞🤞🤞
