BREAKING NEWS | New Zealand will ban new prescriptions of puberty blockers for gender-distressed young people. NZ Health Minister Simeon Brown cites a 2024 evidence brief showing the lack of high-quality evidence for this use of puberty suppression drugs. He says the NZ ban on new treatment under the Medicines Act will emulate the shift to caution in the UK, and remain in force until the end of the UK clinical trial of puberty blockers. Mr Brown also highlights the adoption of more cautious treatment policy on gender distress in Nordic countries such as Finland and Sweden since 2020.
