@FirstinWeather It really happened. And World Series tickets were even affordable then.

Wow, some truly unreal weather today in the DMV. This might be the first time I've ever seen an anafrontal system overperform like this!

@FirstinWeather Look up October 10, 1979. It rained all night postponing game 1 of the World Series in Baltimore. It turned to snow overnight. 0.3" at KBWI, but up to 6" in some suburbs. It was quite the wakeup call, and we froze our tails off at the game that night. It warmed to 41 by 1st pitch

On a side note, there needs to be a law banning bright white LED headlights on cars. My yellow hallogens simply cannot compete, plus you get blinded every time you go for a drive at night.

Hitting 90 in mid March in VA is downright impressive! Big shock to the system tomorrow as a strong cold front roars through bringing cooler temperatures and maybe even a period of snow.

Not just a daily record, but the warmest DC has been this early in the year in 26 YEARS (March 8th, 2000 - 85°F)

With a big warm up coming for the first two weeks of March, our chance of seeing a major snowfall is slim to none as climatology rapidly becomes unfavorable by mid March.

Overall, this winter for the DMV was colder than normal but featured below normal snowfall (again!). IAD: December: -3.1: 2.8 in. snow January: -3.3: 8.2 February: -1.8: 2.4 This was the coldest winter since 2014-2015, and the 6th straight winter of below average snowfall.

After a nice little taste of winter today, a big warm up is headed our way! From mid 50's to upper 60's this week, to maybe even mid 70's next week, this will be a big shock to the system after a relatively colder than normal winter.

Potential for some mood flakes tomorrow in the DMV. Little to no accumulation for most, perhaps half an inch on grassy surfaces in isolated spots.

@ChrisMartzWX That is true, it is unaffordable for most, but what I’m saying is that it’s not the dystopian hell that we are led to believe when we see one street corner on repeat on tv like skid row. Every state has its pros and cons, but there’s a reason living there is so desirable.

@FirstinWeather I have been to California. Three times. I am going again in April for work. Just because the nice areas have money doesn’t mean it’s affordable for everyday people. Your whataboutism doesn’t change the fact people and companies are leaving in droves.

California sucks. This is insane levels of cope. Other than the weather (outside wildlife season) and natural beauty, which are subjective, there is little materially great about modern-day California. Since 2020, y’all have waved goodbye to half a million residents and have lost one electoral vote. There has been an exodus of corporations because of excessive regulation and tax hikes. That, not to mention: • Median home prices are twice as high as the national average. • Median rent for all property types is $2,700 / month, 35% higher than the national average of $2,000 / month. 🔗 zillow.com/rental-manager… • Gas prices are the highest of any U.S. state: Regular = $4.64 / gal; Mid-Grade = $4.87 / gal; and Premium = $5.06 / gal 🔗 gasprices.aaa.com/state-gas-pric… • California has the highest unemployment rate in the country (other than Washington, D.C.), at 5.5% as of December 2025. 🔗 bls.gov/web/laus/laums… • California has the highest homeless population in the U.S., with over 187,000, which is a quarter of the entire homeless population in the nation. And, when the data is normalized on a per capita basis, California still ranks at #5. 🔗 usnews.com/news/best-stat… 🔗 usafacts.org/articles/which… • You have the highest state income tax burdens in the country, with top earners having 12.3% of their pay withheld in addition to what’s taken out by federal income and payroll taxes. 🔗 hrblock.com/tax-center/fil… It is a terrible state to raise a family in. It is a terrible state to retire to. It is a terrible state to live in. And, that’s a shame because it wasn’t always that way. It’s a perfect exhibit of what happens when you elect Democrats and the occasional do-nothing granola Republican into power. My home state of Virginia is about to find the same fate.

@ChrisMartzWX The best weather in the world, the 5th largest economy in the world, the most beautiful state in the country, the best real estate in the country, and the wealthiest state in the country.

The main axis of precip all depends on the strength of the high and the associated area of strongest dTemp/dDistance. Right now, the mid-atlantic is favored.

Our next opportunity for some winter mischief is on Monday, with the GEFS ensemble being particularly bullish with QPF. EPS not so much. This is a classic overruning set up with a high to the north, and an elongated shortwave riding the 850 mb temp gradient.

Overall, this winter storm hurts for us DC snow lovers. It takes a lot for all the pieces to come togethor, every 10 years or so to get the "big one", and DC was just not in the right spot. The blockbuster snow drought for DC sadly continues...

Was pretty spot on for areas to the north and east, with northeastern Maryland cashing in quite nicely as well as Delaware and southern MD.

Post Storm Analysis: My map on the left vs actual snowfall. Overall, not my best work. Most of NOVA saw 1-3 instead of 3-5, while the IVT also set up a bit further east. Was way too low for Balitmore and areas south, which got subsidence. (C+)

@FirstinWeather Haha yardstick has been broken for years. Don’t exactly remember how. Maybe a good thing I don’t end up with as much snow as many areas around or else it would have been hard to measure!
