So many politics discussions boil down to one person saying “that’s very racist” and the other person replying “but I like being very racist”

@philvischer His low opinion of Black people is acceptable. Your low opinion of White people is treason.

Writing gurus : "Write short sentences and don't use big words" Charles Dickens in the first sentence of Oliver Twist: "Among other public buildings in a certain town, which for many reasons it will be prudent to refrain from mentioning, and to which I will assign no fictitious name, there is one anciently common to most towns, great or small: to wit, a workhouse; and in this workhouse was born - on a day and date which I need not trouble myself to repeat, inasmuch as it can be of no possible consequence to the reader, in this stage of the business at all events - the item of mortality whose name is prefixed to the head of this chapter.

Watching this in the middle of the teen illiteracy crisis is like watching Gordon Ramsay complain that his steak sauce is too watery while you're eating rats in a UN refugee tent

In the summer of 2000, as the Harry Potter series was quickly becoming a global sensation, legendary Yale critic Harold Bloom gave one of his most unpopular takes, calling 35 million readers wrong

I’m sorry but if you don’t know William Faulkner lived to see electricity then you know essentially nothing about William Faulkner. This is not some abstract failure of aesthetic instruction; his books are largely set in the early 20th century. He feuded with Hemingway?

It’s weird how historicized, canonical figures in the arts are all flattened in the popular imagination as having lived in some strange, undifferentiated 19th century. Even the great modernists, who definitionally dwelled within a thoroughly industrialized technological paradigm, are all conceived of as some vague Victorian types who wrote by candlelight.

@alyraejepsen @datadriven_tdoc Something like 4 % of adolescent girls were calling themselves "trans" at one point. No way do 4 % of adolescent girls have medical dysphoria. The medical community should have known it's normal for girls to go through a phase where they hate being female and want to opt out.

Everyone QTing/commenting like “so true king” as if your faves were spared from his ire. This professional hater hated on David Foster Wallace, Sylvia Plath, Ray Bradbury, Shirley Jackson, Maya Angelou, Stephen King, JRR Tolkien. Man loved and lived to hate.

@JoelEveretMusic @timecaptales I suppose my perspective is that a lot of my peers loved the books very much and then just don’t seem to have enjoyed anything else. Now they’re pushing thirty and their favourite book is one written for nine year olds.

@Floatinginwaves @timecaptales No, that is true, and I"m thahnkful Mr. Bloom shared his opinion. A best selling book may not indicate a high quality book, but then again I'm still sure that J.K. was not fazed by Mr. Bloom's criticism.

In order to be the “Joe Rogan of the left,” you’d need a streamer/podcaster who: -isn’t known for politics and doesn’t mainly talk about politics, drawing in apolitical types/normies -actually endorses Democratic candidates when it comes down to it like Rogan does for the GOP

This fact, alone, should be more than enough proof for any imbecile who doubts the moon landing. If there was any entity with both the motivation and the resources to show that the landing was fake, it was the Soviets. Yet they acknowledged it as real.
Chad Nixon Kettle@JacobA99

@disglobo @OVTweetmarck The Soviets tracked it the whole way and acknowledged the landing.

If you hit play on “Dark Side of the Moon” at the six second mark of “Jerry Maguire,” you completely ruin the movie.
