A genuine question for those defending every casting decision in The Odyssey… If someone adapted Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet and completely reimagined the nationality, appearance, or traditional portrayal of several iconic characters… Would you still say: “The best actor should always get the role.” Or would you suddenly start talking about staying faithful to Shakespeare? That’s why this debate fascinates me. Should we judge every classic by the same standard… Or do we only defend creative freedom when it’s our favorite director

I think a lot of people are confusing “successful writers/artists being well read” with “people in general being well read” A lot of dumb culturally illiterate people loved South Park (and the Simpsons and Cheers and Frasier) and just…didn’t get every joke which is fine!

@greentransbug @Mycroft_Smart1 In any case, even if it's true, I don't feel like it's terribly productive to say to women, "hey, the people who opt into this actually get victimised way worse than you" because I don't know what the expected response is, of women individually or of feminism generally.
