I have caddied on Tour and the Korn Ferry Tour. Here are some things I did for my player that you can use in your own game. Note the amount of rollout on every green. When you hit an 8 iron, find your divot, walk off the distance to where the ball ended up. Write it down. That information becomes gold later in the round. Know where you putt best from. A putt that breaks slightly right to left is often easier to manage than a straight one. When you have options on approach, favor the side that gives you the putt you like. Plan your round the night before. Wind direction is on your weather app right now. If you know your course you can decide how you are going to play each hole before you ever get there. No decision fatigue on the course. You just execute. Chart your iron shots. Iron you hit. Wind direction. How far it flew. Find your divot, walk it off from where you measured, write down the number. Do it every round for a few months and you will know your distances better than you ever have. This sounds like a lot. It is at first. But once you start thinking this way you stop guessing. You stop second guessing your club choice on the 14th hole with water left. You step in with a number you trust and a plan you already made. That is where confidence comes from. Not the range. The data.

Question: If I hit a thousand iron shots a month off the ground, why should I suddenly change my impact conditions by teeing it up on a few par 3’s? I can still set the ball up with a perfect lie. 🤔

@GBeardsley I get that, George. But, when I'm on a par 3, I can still set the ball on a little tuft of grass and have a dynamite lie.

This means that for a 4-round qualifier, the last person to qualify must shoot -4 under, while the winner shoots about -20 under. Pretty darn good!

The Top50 D1 teams report playing qualifying from an average distance of 7,072 with a course rating of 74. On average, they play 4 rounds of qualifying, and the winner of qualifying averages 67.2, while the 5th player usually has an average of 71.3

What do you think about this question from @pembelson? - - - - - - Lou, Hypothetical question from my weekend group. A 5-index gets a full PGA Tour card for the season. Expenses paid, veteran caddie, practice rounds. We all agree he's never making a cut. But could he avoid finishing dead last just once? Let's assume he plays 50 events, that's 100 rounds. All he needs is one pro's worst day to line up with his best. Can it happen?

If you are a competitive player & you are attempting to shape driver BOTH ways during tournament rounds, you are losing unnecessary (fractional) shots to the field

Why? Honestly... I’m not sure … Weather. Confidence. Energy. Focus. Random variance. Probably some combination of all of it. What I do know is this: Acceptance of variance is essential to development.

Seems like the PGA Tour wants the “5th major” debate back on. The Players Championship just dropped this new ad. Should get you fired up for TPC Sawgrass — but it’s the half-second at the end that’s going to raise eyebrows: “March is going to be major.”

Treated similar to scholarship players in day-to-day operations. • WO — Walk-On: No guaranteed spot. Must earn a place through tryouts or camp. • PSA — Prospective Student-Athlete: Any athlete a college is evaluating or communicating with before enrollment. • OFFER (Scholarship Offer): A school is committing athletic scholarship money if the athlete accepts. • NON-COMMITTABLE OFFER: An offer that is conditional.
