Time & thoughts spent in no particular order on family, Man United, FPL, local politics & nature. Ok that was a lie, FPL comes first, there are worse vices.

@PippaCrerar @Gabriel_Pogrund Behave, this is embarrassing @PippaCrerar. Your brand of breathless, self-indulgent Westminster bubble tittle tattle has zero in commun with @Gabriel_Pogrund's actual investigative journalism about things that matter.
English

@Gabriel_Pogrund A perfect fit! Great news for those of us who really care about journalism. Congratulations x

Personal news: I am exceptionally honoured to be appointed editor of Insight, the Sunday Times investigations team.
As part of the Sunday Times' commitment to investigative journalism, and storytelling in the written word, audio and video, I am also pleased to welcome two of the most talented and inspiring people I have worked with to a newly-expanded team. They are @ManuMidolo, currently investigations reporter, and @venetiamenzies, visual investigations editor. I will be hiring a deputy editor in due course.
Our hope is keep the flame of Insight alive by producing fearless and forensic journalism - while delivering our stories in the most elegant and innovative way possible. The Sunday Times is the best place in the world for any journalist - but also any source. We have the resources, and integrity, to back the people who come to us 100%: if you have a complex, surprising, sensitive - but significant, story to tell, we are open for business.
Insight, founded in 1961, pioneered investigative journalism in Britain, championing the voiceless — including, most famously, the victims of thalidomide — and revealing truths which the powerful hoped to suppress. It dismantled the government's narrative about Bloody Sunday, revealed the defection of Kim Philby, and exposed the nuclear plant at Dimona. More recently it has lifted the lid on FIFA corruption and the government's handling of the pandemic.
I have been blessed to have had the paper's backing in combining investigative reporting on the summit of society — monarchy, MI5 and MI6, Downing St — with less glamorous stories ranging from the victims of funeral poverty in London to the abandonment of spouses in Pakistan. It has been the best experience any reporter could have hoped for - and I will draw on it as I try, to the best of my abilities, to maintain Insight's special traditions.
I would also like to thank Ben Tayor, Krissi Murrison, Lindsay McIntosh, Becky Barrow and perhaps above all Pia Sarma for supporting me over the last decade.

@GianniButtice So could Amad ... need 13 from him and Bruno (c) tonight to hit 100! (Defcon from Alderete incoming). A rare successful bench boost

English

@LetsTalk_FPL The advantage of FH33 is more info and more time to plan for that midweek game for City/Chelsea eg does NOR really start v Arsenal/Burnley/Southampton in 8 days... or is Donnarumma the play etc. Also going for 11 doublers and taking on Bruno/Gab for 1 week feels quite low risk
English

The Wildcard feels a little weird so far.
Bowen, Thiago, and Van Dijk means a whole bunch of lost points which obviously feels bad and makes you think FH33 was the way.
But also, I've had 4 players play and got 4 returns which is fine 🤷
I'm not expecting that rate of returns to continue of course, and if I could go back in time maybe I don't Wildcard, but it's far too early to declare victories, even though WC33/WC35 is in a really strong position as it stands.
We'll declare the victory next week once the Bench Boost fails too 🤣
English

@FPL_TomHadley The pic was lovely and congrats to you both. I've got so much done this weekend! Love fpl but good to have a break.
English

@FPL_TomHadley Knew it. So annoying! Not had any go the other way either.
English

Any Alderete owners out there?
He hit DEFCON in the OPTA update last night but it came too late for FPL to change 😢
#FPL
English

@FPL_Harry Hill or Amad? Basically is Amad ever going to get any points ever again? Must be only United player to have been a better fpl asset under Amorim than Carrick and that was playing at RWB.
English

@FPL_Harry If I go there it will be the third time this season - after 2 previous blocks of 5 games that yielded 21 points total over 10 gameweeks... Definition of madness and all that.
English

Think Gordon is going to become a great pick, especially if Newcastle go out of Europe. #FPL
£7.3M - Midfielder playing ST.
On penalties.
Good one week punt for 31.
Good long term pick as Newcastle will chase Europe until Gameweek 38.
Likely Doubles in 33 BOU (H), ARS (a).

English

@FPL__Raptor Being a united fan may be a factor as we only play about once a month, and then look rusty for the first hour, not exactly fun watching.

Absolute vandals, the lot of them. Brilliant at tearing stuff down, not so hot on the far more complex challenges of governing and making imperfect things work.

The people who told us austerity was crucial, Brexit would be brilliant, Boris Johnson’s amazing and Liz Truss is an economic genius, are now insisting the country should join an illegal war #BBCLauraK

Loving all the great London stories from the last few weeks 👇🏽
London’s been ranked a top place in the world to raise children.
Tech and AI companies are thriving in the capital.
Oxford Street will be pedestrianised.
A new open water swimming spot has been planned for the Thames. The list goes on.
London is the greatest city in the world.

I’m not a fan of Starmer, but whatever he does – literally whatever he does - he is ripped apart, ripped to shreds, by the telegraph, Mail, express, Sun, spectator, the very same people who installed Boris Johnson and the appalling Liz Truss.
The same people who installed the governments that caused Brexit and the financial chaos that has ensued, the same people who have driven this country into the ground.
I’m sick to death of them.
They are the biggest threat to this country and all of us across the board, no matter what our politics are. We need to get billionaires out of the Media

@LaindonFEMINIST @DavidCh67439188 Not force, of course. But good comms is a skill and they're not doing it well. Not telling the story of successes so far, of the difference it will make, maybe is already making to real people's lives. Lack of creativity, lack of storytelling, it's not good enough.
English

@FplKaz @DavidCh67439188 Not really. The gov cannot force the media to report their news. They can deliver it to them which they do multiple times every day in a variety of formats. But we don’t control the media. Thankfully.
English

He’s got to get a better comms team. All the good stuff going on is not being reported enough.
Viviane: 🌹Labour led by Keir for me@LaindonFEMINIST
@donmcgowan @Day17_Anne My opinion remains unchanged. He’s the right leader at the right time. Media have been detrimental to him. Tactical voting likely a factor in yesterday. It was a by election and he still has 3.5 more years to complete his vision. I like what he’s done so far.
English

@LaindonFEMINIST @DavidCh67439188 It's the comms team's job to get it into the media. Unfortunately so many commentators are addicted to breathlessly reporting endless Westminster drama and speculation rather than covering actual policy, and that's a huge problem.
English

@DavidCh67439188 That’s not the comms team it’s the media

@DPJHodges Late 2027 - mid 2028 would be about right. Let Starmer do the hard stuff (as he is already). Give Burnham the new manager bounce and Labour a second term. Reckon Starmer would be ok with that, it's not about ego with him. No rush, no panic, stay strategic.
English

@NicholasTyrone Plus not impossible that Burnham could have lost. Hannah Spencer was strong candidate. If Burnham had abandoned mayoralty and lost by-election that really would have been a shit show. Important thing - for Manchester - and for country - is that Reform were nowhere near winning.
English

@NicholasTyrone Wrong take. Why derail mayoralty for one by-election? Under Starmer's leadership Labour is working through the hard stuff - social care & SEND reform, renters rights etc ... time will tell if it makes a difference but leadership nonsense is the very last thing Labour needs.
