@stillnotkevind1 @jdotwhitt @InspiredByJM True, but that first round will be easier. If the US finishes 2nd in our group this year we'll most likely get egypt or iran R32. We finished 2nd in our group last year and got the netherlands, two different levels of teams. Agree that progress isn't neccesarily linear

@GarrettAtticus @jdotwhitt @InspiredByJM Yes, but also now with the 48 team WC you have to survive 2 knockout stages to reach the QFs, and the USMNT has only ever won 1 of those And between those R16 finishes there's Russia where they didn't even qualify Won't happen again, just saying their growth hasn't been lineal

This is extremely hypocritical coming from USMNT fans. During the women’s world cup in 2023 I saw fans of the men’s team actively rooting for the women to fail & when they did get eliminated in the round of 16 it was a party. So like get off your moral high ground here

@stillnotkevind1 @jdotwhitt @InspiredByJM I mean, they've made R16 in their last 3 world cups and should be getting better compared to their peers as more academies bear fruit. That combined with the women's game becoming more competitive will probably make the results closer between the two teams over time, not same obv

@GarrettAtticus @jdotwhitt @InspiredByJM That shouldn't be the case. It's the union's job to work for future players as well, but I don't know how much more current leadership has done in that area And yeah your prediction is probably right bc winning WWC is harder, but I see the MNT getting grouped more than making QFs

@stillnotkevind1 @jdotwhitt @InspiredByJM Ok, but the union is fighting for the current players, not players that are currently in elementary school. And I'd guess that over the next three world cups that the USMNT makes the round of 16 more often than the USWNT wins the world cup (would love to be proven wrong!)

@GarrettAtticus @jdotwhitt @InspiredByJM That actually seems a realistic goal given that (per the FIFA site) winning WWC nets you 10M while a R16 exit in MWC nets 11M. But more important, this agreement was signed by the union and will likely affect prizes even after the current players are no longer in the NTs

@stillnotkevind1 @jdotwhitt @InspiredByJM Listen, I'd love for this to be wrong as a USWNT fan, but if you think there will be a point in the next 10 years (which is all that matters to the players because they'll be gone by then) that winning the WWC will earn more than a R16 finish in the MWC, then idk what to tell you

@GarrettAtticus @jdotwhitt @InspiredByJM It does now, but the men are betting on the growth of women's sports revenue, where in the future they expect they'll end up receiving more than they give. If you think this is charity out of the kindness of their hearts, I have some beachfront properties in Toluca to sell you.

@stillnotkevind1 @jdotwhitt @InspiredByJM Yeah, and the men's game still pays out more prize money despite that. Fair or not, the men didn't have to pool their prize money with the women, but they did so with no real pushback despite knowing they'd lose money by doing so

@GarrettAtticus @jdotwhitt @InspiredByJM And in return the women split their prize money with them. Which is supposed to be a two way agreement, but while the women are winning olympic gold medals and are World Cup favorites, the men can't even win the Gold Cup or the Nations League

@jdotwhitt @InspiredByJM It's not hard to understand, even people from outside the US see why the WNT are likeable and the men are not. The USWNT represent the improvement of women's sports and equality for LGBT folks. The men don't stand for anything except occasionally doing the MAGA dance like chumps

I know the roster was leaked, and as expected, the 26 players were set in stone. Still, I couldn’t help but crack a smile at Alejandro Zendejas being named, especially as he nervously forgot where he was supposed to walk to. He’s a pleasant surprise on this roster. #USMNT

Most upset about McGlynn’s exclusion Probably the only justified MLS-outfielder inclusion He could change a game in the final 30 mins and breakdown a low block, especially without Tessmann Instead you take that cringe Seattle player who cosplays as Rudy

@Eyesandvibes @herculezg Pochsimply rates Seb & Roldan. And emergency dept 5th CM spot could be filled in by a Tillman, Aaronson or Gio. That'd the logic here.

According to The Guardian, this is Mauricio Pochettino’s 26-man roster for the #USMNT 2026 World Cup. Alejandro Zendejas is IN, but Tanner Tessman is OUT.

I’m glad I’m not an England fan after what Tuchel put together. I’d be so angry. Way easier to be a USA fan where you’re just hoping to find 26 guys who can actually play instead of being a fan where the manager cuts like 8 stars in favor of Jordan Henderson

@vitrawrites @leviteight @JoestarJokic Missing 485 games over the course of a career isn't bad luck at one point. His body just can't handle the rigors of 82 games of NBA basketball through no fault of his own. Not uncommon for dudes his size

@GregGumby @Blue2Ballers @_RealSeb @ErikSlater_ @canonnz_ I'd prefer it to be no one at all, but sure, I'd rather have 2-3 teams blow it up than watching six teams go into the season explicitly trying to lose and four more teams joining them at the deadline

@GregGumby @Blue2Ballers @_RealSeb @ErikSlater_ @canonnz_ Sure they would! What would have been the incentive for them to win those last two months? Even going from 12th worst to 8th worst boosts your odds in the old system, so why try to win?

@GarrettAtticus @Blue2Ballers @_RealSeb @ErikSlater_ @canonnz_ They maybe would tank towards the end of the season, sure. A few games for positioning. But not from February. The Bucks, Mavericks, Bulls, Grizzlies were never going to tank hard enough to be bottom 5 this year. And aren’t they why the rules need to be changed now?

@GregGumby @Blue2Ballers @_RealSeb @ErikSlater_ @canonnz_ It was always going to be more than 2-3 under the old rules. Having the 5th best odds is better than having the 10th best odds and teams were going to act accordingly sooner or later

@GarrettAtticus @Blue2Ballers @_RealSeb @ErikSlater_ @canonnz_ And you’re right, franchises will blow up play-in quality teams. So we could have disincentivized tanking by sticking with the old rule where it was just 2-3 really bad teams tanking, but now we’ll have it be 2-3 play in teams. In your opinion, which of those options is better?

@GregGumby @Blue2Ballers @_RealSeb @ErikSlater_ @canonnz_ As long as there is a positive correlation between finishing worse and draft position teams were going to get more and more brazen. That's how the front offices around the league think

@GregGumby @Blue2Ballers @_RealSeb @ErikSlater_ @canonnz_ Never said it was good ownership. In fact it was objectively the wrong decision given the incentive structure of the league. But I'd rather reward teams like the Bulls who genuinely tried and failed over teams like the Wiz/Jazz who were purposefully shit for years

@GarrettAtticus @Blue2Ballers @_RealSeb @ErikSlater_ @canonnz_ The Kings were the 3 seed a few years ago. The Pelicans best player is constantly injured but build a team & were the #1 team in the west (when he was healthy) 2 years ago. But Bulls staying mediocre and never making a move to improve their team for a decade is good ownership?
