@24Dparks @JoshEberley Not a lot of team have cap space DET seems like a great situation for him, gets to compete clear number 2 guy on offence, team can hide his defensive issues. Only teams thay can easily offer him in FA are BKN and CHI both big markets but he would be moving to a rebuild

@_RealSeb @Chris_ApTx It’s easy to say now but Ayton was the consensus n°1 pick and the Suns desperately needed a big man plus they already had Booker as their star guard

@TheWARmonger_ So it means individual players? Asking genuinely is diferentiating individual or when a ball gets hit at this distance/speed etc of the outfielder it get caught 50% of the time?

This is a common response from a certain group of people on here, so I’ll answer it: A 50% catch probability ball is one that approximately half of major league outfielders make. Approximately half do not catch it. This is based on the distance they have to cover and time they have to get there, using nearly a decade of Statcast measurements.

@ErikSlater_ @canonnz_ The Jazz and Wizards have more star level talent than the Heat/Bulls/Bucks. Worst records are not the least talented team its the teams that try hardest to lose

The point is that the worst teams in the league will have the same lottery odds as borderline playoff teams that already have star-level players. Tanking or not, there will always be very bad teams. Giving them the same chance to improve through the draft as teams who are much better is counterintuitive to the draft’s purpose.

@MZavagno11 Because currently the teams at the bottom are not the least talented rosters they are the teams that try hardest to lose. That doesn’t happen in NFL… Indy Washington and Utah middle of the pack (if not better) talent wise, but they spent the season trying to lose

@AlexKrutchik1 Sorry but as someone from Palm Beach getting to heat games is much easier than Marlins games. I’d probably go to every home game on my day offs if it were easier but the drive deters me so I just settle for the trip 4-5 times a year.

@schadjoe doesn’t fix 30 years of ownership prioritizing every last dollar over being a legit franchise Look at any best marlins players list, they let every single one leave or trade away in their prime. made themselves a AAAA teams, that killed the fanbase, 20 games wouldn’t change that

@MarlinsHistory Think it also plays a big role that all the great players the Marlins have produced are shipped off, that kills connection with fans when you are ALWAYS trading people’s favorite players to not pay them.

#Marlins have only had 7 winning seasons since 1993. Several rebuilds. A branding problem. Just cause team is fun & maybe has a bright future doesn’t mean people will come right away. The Panthers already went through this folks. Need consistent playoff appearances & title run.
Future is bright@MarlinsManiac16

You can blame ownership for a lot, but 10k fans on Day 2 for a fun team isn’t on them. At some point, it’s on the fans too.

This is interesting lab experiment of whether you can win big without tanking. Only 2 recent exceptions: Denver (which had best 2nd round pick in history) or Boston (which got picks that were Tatum & Brown in fleecing of Nets). Takes only one star. But also could take many many years.

For anyone questioning Darryn Peterson, I'd implore you to go back and watch him play in high school. For instance, look at the elevation on this jumper today in the second half, then one from last year at Prolific vs. Columbus. He can't even elevate into his shot right now.

@KeithSmithNBA What if you have another “LeBron leaves the Cavs” situation, which sets off a full rebuild? Well they can pick fifth… Why is that a big deal, if the idea is to redistribute talent, seems totally reasonable

I hate the idea of banning a team from having a top four pick the year after making the conference finals. That feels like an overreaction with unintended consequences. What if you have another “LeBron leaves the Cavs” situation, which sets off a full rebuild? I also don’t love freezing odds at the trade deadline.

@WorldWideWob Instead of draft picks being based on record, teams “bid” with cap space for the draft spot. Highest bid gets the spot. Players count for cap at the teams bid but get paid at normal salary slot. Fixed

This, on paper, should work. It’s been suggested by many sharp people who can justify an open market for rookies and elimination of restricted free agency. This, realistically, will not work. You think cap circumvention is a problem now? Just wait until shoe brands start financially incentivizing their rookie clients to sign with preferred franchises/big city markets. More than half of the Board of Governors are going to approve even more negotiating leverage for the prom kings & queens? Hard to believe, despite the sound logic.
Fullcourtpass@Fullcourtpass

Adam Silver and his advisors would “seriously consider” abolishing the rookie draft and turning rookies in free agents if it is the only way to stop tanking, per @joevardon (nytimes.com/athletic/70468…)
