This is a shallow reading of public opinion dressed up as insight, Larry. Social media comments are not evidence of “strong support across Africa”, they are a mere self-selecting, noisy sample shaped by algorithms, outrage, and visibility. Loud voices are not the majority, they are simply the most amplified. Africa is not a monolith. It is 54 countries, different histories, different interests, different political consciousness. Reducing over a billion people to a comment section is not analysis my brother, it is intellectual laziness. And this idea that disagreement comes from “elite Africans with big English” is a tired and disappointing deflection. Substance matters, not accents. If your argument cannot stand on its own, dismissing critics as “elite” does not rescue it either. If anything, serious engagement requires going beyond both elite circles and comment sections, and actually dealing with facts, policy, and consequences. That is where your argument is found wanting.

Elite Africans with big English are crashing out over this post but the comments under it from across Africa are proving strong support for Trump. Get out of your filter bubbles and speak to regular people outside your privileged circles

When President Trump reportedly called them “shithole countries” I was surprised by how many Africans told me they weren’t as offended as expected. I travel to 20-30 African countries every year. My job is not to report what you agree with, it’s to reflect reality

Where’s the lie? I once met a Nigerian colleague; in her 60s, asked her what her values were and she ended up wondering why she supports Democrats beyond a DISLIKE OF TRUMP. Conservative to the core. Africans love Trump very much in USA and abroad
