Carrier critics: Aircraft Carriers (which move) are "sitting ducks" in today's ISR saturated, precision strike environment Also carrier critics: Shore-based air (which operates from static airfields) is the solution. youtube.com/watch?v=bAnhSk…

No, the bane is no NSS and all the downstream stuff that precedes "hardware and infra" in a grand strategy. Robust discourse involves intellectual heavylifting and speaking truth to power, harder than populist pandering to Desi RW circus. Btw, Sabang also has a runway...
Sandeep@SandeepUnnithan

Good story @ajaynewsman. Slow progress on critical nat sec infrastructure the bane of our system. The INS Baaz expansion needs to be expedited. Heartening to note the second “dual use” airfield coming up on Chingen, GNI, with a full length runway. Which means GNI will have *two* full length 10,000 feet runways capable of basing fighters and P-8Is.

@ybabblloo Nha Trang was not a development situation but a "quasi basing" opportunity. At a time when VN also wanted India to get involved in energy exploration in the SCS. But as usual, we did it half-baked and didn't follow thru

The Philippines chaps struggling for a decade vs PRC, having been let down by "ally" US and FOIP chanting "partner" nations could not be reached for comment... If only there were more examples of maritime contestation from "fender benders" to AGIs being captured. Oh wait...
Abhijit Singh@abhijit227

Trump may have 'paused' Project Freedom but the blockade remains in force. Amid US strikes on Iranian boats and IRGC attacks on cargo vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, it is worth asking if the era of assured access in the maritime commons is at an end.

New at @CBSNews - A cargo ship in the Gulf region was hit by a possible land-attack cruise missile, causing several injuries among the ship's Filipino crew, two U.S. officials told CBS News. If India enforces a far blockade of PRC in a NWNP scenario it gives PRC a casus belli If a "full scale war" has already broken out and India imposes a blockade, the strategically literate must first ask how did we get to a situation where deterrence has broken down. Rigor...

Any attempt to close the Malacca Strait as is being suggested by some commentators (a pipe dream) will invite swift and sure retaliation from Mainland China (not the restaurant). They will not need an expeditionary force.

"We are not looking for a fight" youtube.com/live/4riiXc4Is…? How the posturing has changed, eh? Also note the changed tone of questions. Despite a curated Press Corps at least 3 sharp questions posed.

Are you familiar with how the commercial project is funded? What is the model? Private only? Commercial ventures arenot subject to commercial logic? GoI itself insists on using the term "strategic" to describe the TSH Answer the questions, not deflection and distortion
Shekhar Gupta@ShekharGupta

I understand venerable naval veterans debating strategic value of GNI. The econ viability of the transshipment hub is different. Why confuse strategic & commercial? It’ll be built by a company, not govt, and surely not the Navy. Nobody’ll invest 6-8 billion $ if it isn’t viable?
