A child struggling academically doesn’t automatically mean they are unintelligent or doomed. Some children are socially gifted before they become academically confident. And honestly, society doesn’t talk enough about that. It pains me ! As a parent, the first thing you should stop doing is comparing your child to other children. Comparison kills confidence faster than failure itself. Some kids can communicate well, lead conversations, make friends easily, think creatively, solve real-life problems and still struggle with classroom learning. That doesn’t make them useless. It simply means their learning style may be different. What i feel parents should do: Understand before reacting. Don’t just shout over their poor grades. Find out why they’re struggling. Is it pressure? Fear? Poor teaching? Lack of interest? Attention issues? Different learning pace? Stop using insults as motivation words like calling them lazy, dull, or failure. These insults stay in a child’s mind for years. Correct them without destroying their confidence. Especially African parents from Nigeria. Focus on their strengths too. If your child is socially smart, confident, creative, expressive, or naturally talented in something, nurture it while improving their academics gradually. It’s simple! Make learning less stressful. Not every child learns well through pressure. Sometimes patience, practicals, visuals, mentorship, or even changing learning environments helps more. Celebrate their small improvements because a child who moves from 20% to 45% is improving. Encourage growth instead of only worshipping perfection. Expose them to different skills such as Communication, content creation, tech, sports, fashion, business, media, arts. Today’s world rewards more than just classroom or academics grades. Parents also need to understand this deeply. Good grades are beautiful and Education matters but a child’s value should never be measured only by report cards. I think police should be decentralized to the village level. Let every village chief also be the village police chief. Let locals carry guns to defend their villages. We cannot rely on Abuja for activities in a remote village. At the pace kidnappings and Ransome requests are being made, terrorist will start dictating how laws are made or who rules us. In the developed world, policing is done at the city level, a city is equivalent to what we call villages and it is working for them. We cannot allow our country to be consumed by bandits and terrorist before we start to think. These criminals are emboldened because the security forces are not a match to them. Nigeria needs to act now. If nothing is done these guys will bring the nation to standstill if we do not suspend everything we are doing now including politics and face national security.
