Excited to announce that I'll be returning to @UF as an Assistant Professor in Microbial Ecology @UF_MCS starting January 2025! My lab at @UFIFAS_FLREC will study how biogeochemical transformations mediated by plant-microbe interactions impact ecosystem function. Stay tuned!

@Mostafavi_Ali For someone like me who frequents Houston a lot, the development rate is scary. At least compared to Louisiana…

In Harris County, Texas, 98.6K new buildings were built between 2019 and now. 49.6K of which (51%) are in 100-year flood plains while 100-year flood plain only account for less than 20% of the area in Harris County. It all happened after Harvey! Do you see the problem? Stay tuned for more findings in our soon to be out paper! @HoustonMatters @HoustonChron

The controlled flood water release from Addicks and Barkers Reserviors during Harvey was mainly due to the reduced Greenland in the upstream due to increased development 7 years later, the development in the upstream has been doubled as shown in satellite images below and this increases the flood risk of downstream neighborhoods. Residents of West Houston are perhaps exposed to a greater risk in the next flood event! @HoustonMatters @HoustonChron
