TL;DR: AI is a gift for anyone who is mildly autistic enough to be obsessed about nerdy topics and cross pollinating existing knowledge from these various fields, which used to be way too siloed to move at a decent pace.

The most common question I get about our research team is “what’s your background?” Almost every time it’s asked it comes preloaded with answers. Physics degree? Aerospace engineer? Etc. I used to try to find a bunch of reasons to justify our lack of credentials. But I’ve learned to embrace it instead. Now my response is simple. We/I have no reason in the traditional sense to be good researchers. We are just obsessed with uncovering the truth and specifically as it relates to the future of human expansion and space. I used to feel that this explanation was not enough. It put our work into the category of passion project or essentially fan fiction for knowledge discovery. In reality what I’ve realized is that our obsession is the only edge that matters. We are willing to dig deeper and learn faster than anyone who can’t match our obsession. Today, some of the absolute most accomplished people in the world read or research and often say nice things about it (public and private) Almost all of them are far more accomplished and almost certainly far more intelligent than we are. It’s intimidating publishing work to these people. We certainly make mistakes, some will be kind of novice mistakes. But over time we discover the truth much faster, mainly because we care to. AI gives obsessed truth seekers an incredible advantage. It allows us to iterate faster and faster. It does not care if we ask a stupid question. It doesn’t care if we leave one academic silo to cross pollinate learnings from another. Obsessive truth seeking is all the matters, imo.
