The city of Charlotte broke ground today on the Eastland Sports Complex. 29 acres of Eastland Yards will be used for youth sports. This includes a 100,000-square-foot indoor facility will include courts that can be used for basketball, volleyball or other sports; health and wellness offices; an academic learning center; a STEM lab; and food and beverage stations The outdoor complex will include six full-size multipurpose athletic fields, with a strong emphasis on soccer programming. The fields will be able to be converted for other sports like lacrosse, flag football etc. The complex is expected to open in 2028. This has real potential to be a big hit for the east side. There is a ton of money in youth sports. Charlotte hopes to compete with Rock Hill's Sport and Event Center. Rock Hill holds a youth tournament just about every weekend-- this weekend its volleyball. Next weekend it is basketball. These are travel tournaments. Hotels and restaurants benefit. Rock Hill says the direct economic impact of its facility last year was $77.6 million
