Hot off the press! (Had to crack this one, since the paper is about heat!) We determined, for the first time, the thermal tolerance limits of the Common Toad (Duttaphrynus melanostictus) and found that vulnerability varies significantly across life stages. #climate #heat

Predatory journals are on the rise, luring scholars with promises of quick publication but offering little to no peer review or credibility. Publishing in these outlets can damage your reputation, waste your hard work and mislead the scientific community. Check out the article by Seshadri K. S., Faculty at ATREE, on how to avoid the trap of predatory journals via the link. deccanherald.com/education/avoi…

Last Weekend @ SGB, we learned about what some animals eat, what some people eat, and some animals people eat! 🐸 Public lecture with ecologist KS Seshadri @KSSeshadri about why we should care about what frogs and toads eat. 🍈 A workshop with botanist Ganeshan Rengaian to explore where the fruits and vegetables on our plates come from. 🧑‍🍳 Public lecture and insect tasting with conservation biologist Priyadarsanan Dharma Rajan and the Insect Biosystematics and Conservation Lab team from ATREE @atree_org. Missed these events? There's more, every weekend! Register for our upcoming programmes at calorie.scigalleryblr.org/programmes @JahnaviPhalkey

Across India, Blackbucks (Antilope cervicapra) are found in and around several protected areas, some of which were specifically created to protect them. A study by ATREE on the Jayamangali Blackbuck Conservation Reserve (JBCR) in Tumkur district, Karnataka, shows why conservation measures for this endemic species must go beyond establishing dedicated reserves to include the scientific management of savanna-grassland habitats. This research was conducted by B.R. Manoj Kumar as part of his MSc programme at ATREE, under the guidance of faculty members T. Ganesh and K.S. Seshadri. To access the paper titled “Blackbuck conservation in fragmented Landscapes: Evaluating habitat use in and around a conservation reserve.” doi.org/10.1016/j.jnc.…

For his Master's Dissertation, Manoj explored how blackbuck used the habitat and how their occupancy changes over time. We found more evidence of blackbuck outside than inside the reserve. This is unsurprising as the habitat inside is wooded!
