Nice job @KSheikhly on presenting our work on apical sparing in patients with hypertensive emergency. Almost a third of patients who presented with hypertensive emergency, and had strain imaging performed, had apical sparing #HFSA2021

#Telemedicine I called a patient for a virtual visit. Scheduler’s note said FaceTime next to his name. He was parked in a McDonald’s parking lot. He is a warm man. He was excited to receive my call. FaceTime button is greyed out though. I asked: Is your phone an IPhone?

@MasriAhmadMD @iamritu @onco_cardiology @jelevenson @AmrFBarakat @MattH_MD @purviparwani @HeitnerStephen @strain_rate @BrettSperryMD We looked at 120 patients presented with HTN emergency and had echo with strain, 25% of them had apical sparing with apical to other segments ratio of > 1. Although most of them didn’t have further testing, I highly doubt they all have Amyloidosis.

Thoughts on this #strain pattern? h/o HTN and LVH. Some images below. Just HTN? no amyloid red flags. LVH on EKG. no symptoms. Would you do more workup just for the strain pattern? #echofirst #cardiotwitter
