Not only did Africans sell our ancestors to European enslavers, but American chattel slavery should NEVER be compared to colonialism. Colonialism in Ghana lasted 83 years. Slavery in America lasted 246 years. And from my perspective, African countries that engaged in the flesh trade made a deal with the devil. What did Africans expect would be the outcome? Now they’re usurping our reparations movement energy to double dip. The exploitation of #ADOS is never ending.

@Artxpooh Not over here❗️My daughter attends Design and Architecture Senior High (DASH). With only 0.02% of Black women in architecture, I preach persistence and work ethic, a 12th-grade year-round internship, and every college summers internships with firms. I’m fully invested in her ❤️💰

Every time someone leads with our graduation rate @ewctigers, I welcome the question because it gives me the opportunity to tell the truth about who we are. Yes, our six-year graduation rate is 28%. That is the federal measure, reported through IPEDS, and it is the only rate that matters for legitimate comparison purposes. I will not run from it. But I will absolutely contextualize it, because a number without context is not information — its a talking point. Here is what that 28% does not tell you. It does not tell you that another 29% of our students transferred out of Edward Waters University. Under federal methodology, every single one of those students counts as a failure — even the ones who transferred and graduated somewhere else. When you combine our graduates with our transfer-out population, the real student success footprint at EWU is closer to 57% of the entering cohort. That is a fundamentally different story than 28% alone tells, and it is the story that never gets reported. Our retention rate is 57% for full-time students and 38% for part-time students. I have heard people cite those numbers as evidence of institutional weakness. I read them as evidence of the economic reality our students navigate every single day. These are largely not students who left because they were dissatisfied. These are students managing jobs, families, and financial pressures that most traditional college students never encounter. The metric does not capture that. I do. And here is the other number I want you to hold alongside that graduation rate: 79%. That's the percentage of low income EWU students who qualify for federal Pell Grants. The national average at four-year institutions is approximately 35% percent. We are more than double that. We are not enrolling students whose families have college savings accounts and exposure to higher education. We are enrolling students for whom attending college at all represents an act of courage — students who work full-time, support families, navigate food and housing insecurity, and still show up. The graduation rate metric was not designed with those students in mind. It was designed for a traditional, full-time, residential student who enrolls one fall and walks across a stage four years later. That is not our student. What I find telling is this: In 2025 U.S. News and World Report ranked EWU 25th in the nation for Social Mobility. Social Mobility measures exactly what I just described — access and outcomes for low-income students. That ranking did not happen by accident. It happened because this institution has spent 160 years doing the hard work that more resourced institutions have never had to do. The question was never really about our graduation rate. The question is whether this country is serious about expanding access to higher education for students who have historically been left out. Edward Waters has been serious about that since 1866. If you want to evaluate us, evaluate us on that.

@KevinDCrum @jemelehill @jiggyjayy2 Most Americans (ADOS in particular) are not "bad with money." That is a oligarch talking point. ("Financial Literacy!") Most Americans are poor. Net wealth is declining. The Fed Min. Wage is > $8. Most Americans don't have $400 for an emergency. STICK TO SPORTS.

Men in the comment saying they dont care about women success, only about their ability to submit and femininity, but submissive and feminine women get cheated on and left with nothing on a daily basis if they dont have their own success to fall back on. #noticing

@tombig1983 @SheLoves_Thee True, but you are not factoring in NIL opportunities for his son, and I'm sure they do some deals together. I know how donors and alums work in that P4 space.

This is not a Moe support post, but all HBCUs' coaches play so many guarantee games that those records don't truly reflect their coaching. Once in a decade, you may see an upset.
Zo Phillips@ZoPhillips1400

Mo Williams gets promoted after 132 games & will leave JSU with 57 wins & 75 losses that comes to a 43% winning percentage. The exact same as Wayne Brent who proceeded him who left JSU after 275 games with 119 wins & 156 defeats. Wow SMDH

In an Orange County, Florida courtroom, Judge John Jordan looked at a Black woman before him and asked, “Have you ever chopped cotton?” He followed it with, “That’ll straighten you up,” reaching for the history of plantation field labor while deciding a Black defendant’s fate. She was in court on a felony battery case, facing community service, and instead of modeling impartiality and respect, the judge invoked imagery tied directly to the enslavement and exploitation of Black people. That is not a harmless joke; it is a reminder of who has power in that room and how casually our trauma can be weaponized from the bench. Jordan’s comments triggered a formal ethics case. The state’s judicial commission found that he violated the Code of Judicial Conduct and is recommending only a public reprimand, which he has agreed to accept, while allowing him to remain on the bench. So the result is this: the system agrees his words were wrong, but is still asking Black defendants to trust a judge who sees “chopped cotton” as a way to “straighten up” a Black woman standing before him.
