Mental health improves when people live in reality. (See every effective therapy.)
A biblical worldview and traditional conservatism delivers that. It see the world for what it actually is including the human potential for both villainy and glory. It provides an objective structure- limits, risks, responsibilities, meaning, Creator/created distinctions. It tells you the truth about who you are.
Progressivism often begins by denying those things. And once you reject reality, you have to build a replacement reality out of ideology detached from who you really are.
Living in a self-constructed universe is not great for mental health.

Conservatives who attend church weekly are the least likely to have ever been diagnosed with a mental health condition. Liberals who have low attendance are the most likely to have a diagnosis.

How Christianity Invented Childhood
"Under Roman law a father held a legal power called patria potestas, or “total ownership,” of his children. He could sell them, deny them property, or abandon a newborn on a hillside. The child was not a person but property under the law.
What a surprise then that the so-called “paternalistic” Apostle Paul upended five centuries of that system in a single verse when he wrote “Fathers do not exasperate your children; instead bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord” (Ephesians 6:4).
Roman law already demanded obedience to the father under pater familias. So Paul’s revolutionary challenge to the system was not to challenge obedience, but rather to tell the man holding absolute power he had a duty to the best interests of the child rather than himself."

Practically overnight, we took an ancient vice—long regarded as soul-rotting and civilizationally ruinous—put it on everyone’s phone, and made it as normal and frictionless as checking the weather.
What could possibly go wrong?

Last year, The Atlantic gave me $10K to gamble with. What started as a journalistic gimmick turned into something more... unnerving. My cover story on the online betting boom warping sports, culture, politics, and the psyches of millions of young men: theatlantic.com/magazine/2026/…

We take Christianity for granted as the background beliefs of Western culture, like wallpaper.
Take, for example, human rights:
“That we are all of us possessed of certain fundamental rights, simply by virtue of being human, and of a dignity that embraces our entire species, are doctrines so widely accepted in contemporary Britain that many of us barely recognise them as doctrines at all.”
