@LostMyHats JD, at this point I'm going to disengage from this conversation, and I'll explain why: I don't believe you're being honest. You make a claim. I demonstrate it's false. You double down. That's not a good use of my time. I do pray you would know the Lord's peace.

@LostMyHats To be clear, I addressed one thing in my tweet: "sudden change," which was the basis of much of your tweet. I demonstrated that that is untrue. You want to change the subject, which you can do. But I still wonder if you're sticking with your original thesis.

“The real story is not Jonathan Leeman’s shift itself, but the reason it is happening now. For the last decade, the evangelical establishment bet heavily on being the theological wing of the professional class. They were funded by foundations, praised by mainstream media, propped up by out-of-touch seminaries, and recruited as the respectable religious arm of the political left. They used their platforms to discourage Christians from supporting conservative candidates, to soften moral lines, and to baptize progressive priorities in biblical language. But this isn’t repentance. This is rebranding under duress. Their carefully crafted image as voices of moderation evaporated. Their influence dissolved like sugar in hot water. And once their value to the political left diminished, so did their funding. The progressive donors who had poured millions into evangelical organizations, seminaries, and parachurch ministries suddenly realized they had purchased nothing. They received no return on investment. Their ideological missionaries failed to convert the pews. Their money could have been shoveled into a fire pit for all the effect it had. This is where Leeman’s sudden change makes sense. His reversal is an early sign of the evangelical elites preparing to crawl back to the very churches they once treated as backward, embarrassing, and beneath their intellect.” Read more at Insight to Incite. @CodyLibolt I know my own heart too well to ever deny the possibility of fear of man instead of fear of God as a baseline motive. So thank you for the challenge. That said, I began changing what I said publicly shortly after 2018. Here's a 2020 article saying so: 9marks.org/article/what-m…

7 years later, Jonathan Leeman offers a bumbling acknowledgment that he was wrong: “Wanted to say a Christian might choose to do this [vote Democrat] for other reasons—ok I’m looking at these five issues and I disagree on this issue, but as I do my cost benefit analysis, I’m gonna vote for this DEM for this reason—and we created space for that.” This change is far too little, and it comes far too late. Incidentally, it also comes at a time when the incentives for the Christian influencer have shifted. There has already been a huge preference cascade. Not that we can know everything about a person’s motives; but we can keep track of what they are chosing to say—and when they are choosing to say it. This much ought to be obvious: A man like Jonathan Leeman can never again be trusted as a teacher of Christian ethics. x.com/Protestia/stat…
